I just hit 120000 with my car and I've talked my wife into letting me blow about $500 on maintenance (she knows how much I love my car). I have a 97 GSX Auto with full options and no modifications. This is what I'm wanting to do (and what I'd like to throw in). I will be following these directions: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G.html along with my haynes manual.

1. Timing belt change
a. timing belt
b. autotensioner
c. tensioner pulley
d. idler pulley
2. Oil change (car has always had high mileage Castrol GTX)
3. Transmission fluid change (ordering case of synchroshift or redline)
4. Differential fluid change
5. Install FIPK
6. Check power steering
7. Flush/replace coolant (possibly take out radiator and clean it with a solvent)
8. Pull SMIC and clean it
9. Change plugs and wires

Is there anything else I'm missing? Also, do you need the 2 specialty tools that they show? Finally, it sounds like I have a little bit of lifter tick. Is this the best time to fix this and if so, is there a vfaq for this?

Seems like an awful lot of money for that type of service. I'd rebuild the head with 500 and do everything myself.

Sounds pretty good. You could change your radiator hoses if you wanted, since the coolant will be flushed anyways.

You forgot to make sure the flux compacitor is working! Come on! It is what makes time travel possible! :D Sorry weird mood today.

Sounds to me like you have everything covered. Since you didn't mention it I am assuming that you did a BSEK so you don't have to change the balance shaft belt. Besides that it looks pretty good. :thumb:

With the timing belt maintenence at 120k I would reccomend:
timing belt, balance belt (if you still have it), auto tensioner, tensioner pulleys (2- 1 for tb, 1 for bb if you still have it), idler pulley, water pump, 5 seals (2-cam seals, crank seal, oil pump seal, balance shaft seal if you still got it)

Before you pull it apart I would suggest a leak test to find out the condition of the valve stem seals as they are probably leaking and now would be a good time to refresh the head as suggested. However, for just a factory fresh head (cleaning and resealing, which would include the 2 cam seal mentioned above) it should not cost more than $150-$200 plus a head gasket set. If you pull the head you should also replace the heater hoses and all the misc water jumper hoses that are spread over the engine. Also accessory belts.

The fluid changes and cleaning would also be a good idea.

So go back to the wife and tell her you really need $1000 for proper maintenence that way you have enough money to take care of the little nick pickin stuff that I forgot but really should be done while your there.

And always when going to the wife for budget approval, ask for double what you think it will cost.

Uhhh, except he doesn't have a distributor and cap.

Don't forget the balance shaft belt.

Man, I thought I was an idiot. I was about to type that I thought we had a coil pack and not a distributor cap. TY jastermerrel.
