So since I'm such a noob...can someone let me know how to recognize exactly what it is I'm working with? I have a 97 TSI fwd 5speed. Not sure what engine and turbo are in it. About positive its stock but don't know the difference between 420a or a 4g63. The turbo as well is not the original one(according to seller) but I think its just a stock replacement. The casting on the compressor housing reads TD05H i beleive. Its kinda hard to read so if this sounds familiar or if I am complete off fell free to let me know. Have been more concerned about reliability as opposed to mods so far so I am about ready to start tweeking her a wee bit. Any info is halpfull thanks guys. Also finally got some decent pics of the car and engine up so let me know what you think yeah?:thumb:

Spend some time reading the Vfaq, vfaq.com

You have a 4G63. TD05H doesn't tell us much, it could still be upgraded, or it could be completely stock- see the Vfaq, every dsm owner should read that whole site.

well I appreciate the info, I will definately look into that site when i have some time. As far as the turbo someone on here had menchioned to post what was on the turbo to see what type it was and thats all I could find. any one in San Diego that could maybe take a look at it hit me up...
