Rebuilt my first engine... and it turned out good.

I just wanted to share with every one my very first engine rebuild. I just finished 700 miles and did the first compression testing and things are looking great.

I opted for the 2G piston conversion in my '90 6 bolt. I've read good things about the response you gain in the low end. I haven't had the chance to really feel the car yet though, do to a big boost leak I don't even want to get into yet; but it definitely feels beefier quick on the petal.

The cylinders read:

cyl#1 185psi cyl#2 178psi cyl#3 186psi cyl#4 188psi

Congrats on the rebuild. I don't know about feeling a difference in the bottom end since you are only gaining 0.7 of a compression point.
 
Well its ether the .7 or the going from 100psi to 185... go figure. Still, that .7 is about a 13% compression increase.

Ether way, I like to tell myself its the 2G pistons that give me that... cutting edge ;)

Once your driving let me know how the car feels, I have 2g pistons in my 6bolt rebuild/swap and havent driven it yet due to other problems. But will be soon.

One thing I should add, I got my eprom ecu keydiver chipped from www.dsmchips.com from jeff. Reason being, you will encounter a lot of knock early from the comp ratio of the 2g pistons with the 1g timing maps. I believe a another 1g dsmer with 2g pistons told me anything over 13lbs he was hitting knock with those 2g pistons on a 16g with stock timing adv. ( And it had nothing to do with fuel supply ) yet he was in california so he only has 91 octane, but I mean id say 14lbs on 93 octane stock turbo even with a perfectly good fuel system and perfect running car might be the threshold for knock on those pistons with our timing maps.

Id recommend getting chipped to deal with it, get custom hybrid 1g/2g timing maps made for it and youll be fine.
 
I ran 23 lbs. on 92 pump on an ported and clipped big 16g with 2g pistons on 1g rods only seeing 3 counts of knock at 7200rpm with almost 20* of advance.
In my 92 TSi AWD.
