So i'm new to this whole thing, I chose "N/A" because I had no idea what I had. Is that the non turbo 16v DOHC? I see "N/A" and "DSM" but I have no idea what any of them mean.

Yes "na" is naturally aspirated meaning no forced induction is being used ie turbo or supercharger. Your eclipse has the chrysler 420a engine which is a 2.0 DOHC N/A. "DSM" is diamond star motors, it was a joint venture by Mitsubishi and Chrysler. The mitsubishi eclipse, Eagle talon and plymouth laser are all DSMs

I don't know what all your doing, but I also do the water pump, oil pump and maybe even a light weight UDP! Get all the maintenance out of the way while it's out and you should be golden!

Okay thanks so much man, cleared up a lot of confusion haha.

I don't know what i'm doing either haha, that's why i'm here. I just want to slowly do as much possible to get HP out of it, without getting a turbo. Until I can afford a turbo of course.

You REALLY (need) should get a BAFFLED oil pan. That is one of the main reasons why those engines get spun rod bearings. Good luck on the rebuild. (i am not 100% sure where to get one, but search and it shouldn't be hard to find)

I'll check into that. My dad works at a body shop and we're really good friends with the owner so we get discounts on a lot of parts from different places.

Also if anyone knows, I got a new battery from wal-mart and put it in, and if I charge it, it will start up. But if I leave it overnight, the next day, it's dead. Is this just a bad battery?

Honestly.. There isn't much hp on N/A 420a's. If I were you I would try and find a used, decent, running motor at a junk yard (quarter the price of most rebuilds) an slowly build an engine to support a turbo and go from there.

That's just me, rather do it all once then rebuilding 2 times, if that makes any sense!

Well, it's not like i'm going to be racing it or anything haha. I'm just wanting it to look good, sound good, and at least have as much HP as it can get for a low budget. The only time I would be racing is when i'm just messing around with friends haha.

In that case, rebuild the engine to stock, get a cheap intake and exhaust, and focus mostly on making it look clean. Then decide if you want more out of it down the road. But Your really not going to get much out of that engine without a turbo. It's not exactly a 420a thing, it's a 4 cylinder thing (contrary to what the Honda guys think). However they can be very reliable and economical if you keep up with maintenance. Just hate to see guys spend tons of time and money for very mild power gains.

I pretty much just want this while I'm in college, then save up money all four years, and make a good purchase afterwards on a better car. Unless a GSX decides to roll by for sale, then I'll probably go with that haha. So i'm going to have this for a while, so I figured I'd do some good things to it in that time.
