Hey guys im new to dsm cars so i need some advice on what the best parts im gonna need to build my eclipse to its full potential. I know the parts i need i just dont the best brands and sizes. I'm rebuilding the motor in an 95 eclipse gs manual i dont plan on putting on a turbo kit just yet im on a budget.

Do you plan on eventually putting on a turbo kit? Think about what your goals are...do you want to do a mild turbo build on 8psi or do you want to go all out and build for 30+ psi? Then you can go from there with what compression ratio to use, along with how exactly you want to build the engine for this goal.

^^^^ we need to know what your end goals are. and what budget you have to work with.

Be aware that if you want good main bearings like clevite77. You will have to use a Dremel to grind new notches in the mains to accept these bearings. The reason is the notches face the opposite way only on the 95's. 96 + up are all the same. I had bought a 95 block for my build. It took me less than a half hour to do this.

i do plan on putting a turbo on 30psi but it will be later down the road my budget is around $1000 for motor alone i want the motor to be as fast as possible without forced induction

I dont think you are being reailistic with $1000 price tag. My basic rebuild with stock parts was $1300 and I did a lot of my own work. You can't be fast with a n/t biuld then turbo it. IE high compression pistons then boost those same pistons to 30 lbs of boost. You'll need forged internals for that much boost. Stock pistons and rods can only handle appx 220 hp. You could do a stock build and lightly boost to 8psi and still have fun.

As said above, you might want to re-think how much money you're going to spend, as well as having realistic goals. If you want to go higher compression, stay N/T and throw nitrous at it. If you want to turbo it, you're most likely going to want to lower your CR.

ok the 1000 is for the rebuild kit alone i guess i worded it wrong. the rebuild kits on ebay are like 550 they come with forged steel pistons and i am doing all the work myself. the only thing i want to do at the time is bore the engine, and get a good rebuild kit and good cam. i dont know what compression i should do either and what size lift on the cam and the nitrous idea sounds pretty good

Are you planning to have your head redone too? It's $10 per valve + $50 to have the head surfaced + cleaning and assembly for another $100. You could keep the compression about stock and keep stock cams lightly boost it. And still have alot of fun. Horsepower = $$$ bottomline.:thumb:

dang, what shop are you going to? so a DOHC head to get rebuilt is over $300?

Thats about $100 more thn what it costs to get a head done with a basic rebuild.
teardown, clean, grind valves, cut seats, and reassemble is $160 here surfacing is $40 add a pressure test for cracks is $37, guide work or PnP adds to the cost.

Dang...a repair shop I used to go to got seriously boned by our local machine shop! I told them to cut the A/C belt on my N/T a while back 'cause it was dragging, and they didn't get some of the chunks out. So crank engine = chunks under timing cover = 6 bent valves. The shop replaced them for free and the machine shop charged them over $1000!

There are only a couple of places left around here. When I first was looking into having my engine rebuilt one place was talking $3000 for a basic rebuild and they were really rude on top of it. What kind of prices should I be paying?
