I got a pretty good deal on a garrett gt3076r ball bearing turbo that needs a rebuild. Problem is I've searched the site on ball bearing turbos and it has been stated several times that they are not able to be rebuilt, however if you have a garrett ball bearing turbo you can have the chra exchanged. well I've done more research outside of tuners and people are claiming to be able to rebuild these turbos and I have also seen rebuild kits for these turbos yet I have yet to see any write ups or videos of anyone actually doing so. Just wondering if anyone has came across a tutorial on a rebuild or knows how to do so themselves.

Doing so requires a press and a VSR balancer. Without a press you'll bend the shaft, and without a VSR balancer the turbo won't make over 8-10psi. These turbos are extremely intolerant of any degree of unbalance.

Another thing to consider is Garrett does not offer parts; any of the parts kits you find are aftermarket and are most likely made in China....so anyone claiming to have rebuilt a ball bearing turbo is using parts that are not of the same quality installed by Garrett.

Well that's all I needed to hear, no china parts for me. I'll see if I can get in on the exchange program through garret or part out the housings. thanks!

Thats the best thing to do. They have a monopoly of the rebuild parts.
