Rebuild with out oil pump?

First, to those saying just replace the gears, that's like saying just replace the rings without honing your block. Second, I've done plenty of BS elim. and re-used the oil pump, never had a problem. As long as the car had good oil pressure before, it should be fine. If I was doing a complete engine build, I would use all new parts however. Not out of necessity, rather personal preference.

Ive never seen or read in a remanfactured engine build sheets were they listed "we checked the old oil pump, it was ok so we put it back in." ALL MOTORS NO MATER WHO MAKES THEM COMES WITH A NEW OIL PUMP. the oil pump is a wearable item. Would you use old bearings, rings just becuase they were within spec.? You may be able to get away with it once or twice but the odds are agianst you.

All motors? Are you confusing rebuilt engines with new shortblocks? I can assure you from experience that new oil pumps are not a pre-requisite for an engine rebuild.

Evil X confirmed my original post. You can replace your working old pump whith a new one from the factory that could be defective (seen happen with 2 Honda B-series engines) which is why I personally don't advise changing it on a lower mileage rebuild (providing it is inspected & meets specs).

You can change it if you want for piece of mind but I've already had a few brand new Mitsubishi parts DOA so replacing a working pump with a new one doesn't garentee that your engine is safe from oil pump failure.

I guess I should of been more specific on what I feel is a requirement for a engine rebuild. After reading the original post it could be ether way based on mileage and abuse.
I was pushing more on replacement if your doing an entire rebiuld. A low mileage motor then yes, less than 20-30K.

Sad this thread has made it to two pages....NO ONE TAKE THIS PERSONAL....but, I just find it funny when shit does go wrong and then there are numerous posts about what and why and how to fix it....I reused my front case when I pulled my balance shafts and my motor had 60,000 on the clock, I replaced the gears just to feel a little better.
However, when I build my 6 bolt up, I would not re-use the front case that was on there when I bought it, even though it had 40,000 miles on it. Call it, peace of mind...
