thanks 2slow4now, i actually just got my car tinted today so im excited to give people an example of tints on a 2g. I think 20s on a black car is perfect, any darker then it would offset the color of your car.

i got pulled over yesturday and the cop checked my tinting, i have 35 on the front and 20 on the back and he only checked the front. anything below 35 in georgia is illegal so

I have 5% on sides (none on back window, looks funny) cant see shit at night, if you can believe it they just passed a law here and you can tint your WINDSHIELD! really light not sure of what % but still...

I agree with most people here, 15-20% is fine. Personally i run 15% in my car and truck, although a cop argued with me that it was closer to 12% :O
Also it depends on your driving and how much attension you might get from the athorities, i usually get one tint ticket a year. Bad investment, i loose every year!

I plan on doing 20% on side windows, 5% in the rears, and 50% on the windshield with a brow. You won't believe how nice things look at night time, no glare.

I had 20% all the way around (except for on the windshield of course) on my old Talon. I really liked it and it didn't make it hard to see out the windows at night. I only got pulled over for it once in the 5 years I had it. I plan on doing the same on my current Talon this summer.

In my old RS I got 5% all around I needed to get used to it at night but I loved that you couldn't see inside at all. Me and my girl had some fun while driving around (; but that all stopped when I got my GS-T that has no tinting =\. I plan on doing 5% again the cops in my city don't really check an I have my windows down most of the time anyway.

i had 5% on my s2000 down here in florida. at first it felt as if i was in a coffin at night but within a couple of days i got used to it and absolutely loved them. i recently removed the tints on my dsm just because they were too light and i didnt see the point in having tints if theyre not going to be as dark as possible.

I don't think that site is 100% accurate (tintlaws). In Pennsylvania, the law doesn't explicitly state an acceptable percentage (unless they changed it in the past four years which is entirely possible), rather it states that enough light must pass through such that an office can adequately and easily see inside the vehicle and any contents therein.

This leaves it open to much interpretation from officers, judges, and citizens alike, but the thing about it is you can argue that since other state statutes say tint down to 20%-35% is adequate for allowing an officer to view contents of a vehicle, there's no reason an officer in Pennsylvania can't see through the same tint as an officer in another state.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong on this, PA people. I looked into this in great detail and even read through the legal code on the matter, but like I said, that was four-almost five years ago and things could have changed.

Hawaii's laws on window tint are different in alot of ways then PA or any other mainland state. For example: Mirror window tint is completly legal on Oahu, but if you have Dark or any other "colored" window tint at a percentage I am not familar with OR a police officer or safety inspection station feels it is too dark, you would be found in violation.

And the mirror tint I am talking about, is the kind that from outside the vehicle you cannot see past.

Im from PA. My friend got pulled over recently for her tint. It was only her first time. She has 20% and didn't even get a ticket so you should be good at 20%.

My God, you guys are lucky.

Up here it's 50% (aka, not worth having) and I've never had a car without factory tint since every single one of my friends with 35% or lighter gets pulled over nearly monthly.

I'd love to get some tint, I think it'd look great with my smoked tails, black wheels and black headlights, but I can't afford the tickets.

HA! Here in Delaware you're only allowed 70% without a waiver. And thanks to some stupid ass stealing a script pad from one of the eye doctor's at our practice ( I work at one of the largest eye care offices in the state) and filling out scripts and waivers for all of their friends...the DMV now calls the prescribing office to confirm that a doc actually signed the waiver.

I can't even get one now.

I've been personally tinting windows for years and 20% is easy to get away with. Remember if you do 20 all around it will add up and it will look nice and dark and even better with dark interiors. Good Luck!

Ohh one more thing.... If you see a cop just roll down your driver and passenger windows...What cops care to see is the driver and passenger. Another way to get away with it is if you have a Dr. write you a note saying that you have a skin condition and cant get to much sunlight... then you can have any tint you want.... just a thought

I've had 20% for a long time. I think it looks fantastic in the daytime, and helpful to me as I had Lasik so my eyes are a bit more sensitive to light, but at night it's a bit difficult to see in unlit areas. I have on occasion had to open my windows to look around when I was turning. I have 35% on my Evo and honestly I'm ok with that too but it doesn't look as good. The looks aren't different enough though for me to change the Evo down to 20%, and the night issues aren't bad enough to make me go up to 35% on the Eclipse.

The tip about opening your windows during the day when in proximity of cops works very very well. Lights up the cabin and lessens just how dark the windows look, and of course the cops don't see the door windows at all. Doesn't mean you won't get pulled over for it though as I have, but when I started rolling down my windows the number of incidents dropped drastically.

It's a good idea, but what about people who drive their cars in the winter?

I use to do the same thing, until a cop rolled up along side me smack dab in the middle of winter in Chicago....I rolled my windows down, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, and the cop said over his loudspeaker "driver, roll up your windows, I'm not going to pull you over".....

No you're definitely right, you're screwed in winter. Just gotta suck it up and take the tickets...

I can say I never once have been pulled over for tint in my Evo at 35% all around, despite the laws requiring 50% on the sides in my state. Eclipse I'm almost guaranteed to get pulled over if I have my windows up and the cop gets close.

This may be old, but keep complaining on getting headaches from bright lights. You might be able to get one.

If they ask why you never complained before, just say it always bothered you with really bright lights but has been slowly getting worse and recently has become so bad you can no longer stand it.

The thing about tint, is most windows have a factory tint on them. its not a dark or noticeable tint, and sometimes its basically clear, but its there. Shops generally tint over whatever factory tint is on the window, which can make the actual % lower then the tint you bought. I have seen cops here in MD, when they feel like being a dick (mostly because they want to give young kids street racing any ticket they can), write repair orders for legal 35% tint because with the factory window film/tint it really comes out to something like 32% according to however the cops measure it.

As for hard to see as night, a good friend of mine has tinted his last 3 cars with 5% on the rear window and rear side windows, 20% on the doors, and 35% across the entire windshield with a 5% 1/4 strip at the top over the 35%. If he didnt put HIDs in all his cars you would be pretty much blind at night.
On a funny side note, the apartment he got for school in florida requires parking permits, and he had to get the management to come look at his car and put him on the do not tow list, because you can point a flashlight at his windshield at night and struggle to see anything on his dash, and with 5% over top of 35% at the top 1/4, you cant see the rear view mirror (where the hanging permit is supposed to go) at all at any time of day.
