Hi there,

First post here and I'm in a bit of a jam :(. I have a Talon ESi that I bought this weekend to fix up. I'm trying to install a rear wheel bearing but I don't know how to get it off. I noticed that the front axle nut just comes off with a 32MM socket. Is the rear the same? is it a pressed bearing? I have no idea how to remove it as I can't get to the axle nut off because of a metal plate covering the nut Sorry for the newbie question, just really need some help.

Thanks

Yes just make sure the brake hardware is removed or else you will have a mess. Also when you put the bolts back in don't torque one down them go to the next. Get them all hand tight then go at it with a torque wrench.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

There is a nut hiding under that metal cap but removing the hub and little stub shaft would be alot easier off the car to service just the bearings.

The nut has a lip on it that gets punch locked onto the stub shaft. You have to bend out the nut in the slot to take it off. Just use a small piece of square stock and angle grind the end a bit to make a punch.

This is a set I took apart, inspected, cleaned, greased up, and reassembled. The OEM bearing looked fine even with the 100k+ miles on it. Better quality and cheaper than some chinese cheapies so I'll keep using them. :thumb:
