Rear hatch struts

hey guys, in order to replace my hatch struts, do i have to take off all that plastic molding? in the trunk, its one entire huge peice...im hoping i can get away without taking it off...

Removing the trim is unnecessary. The struts can be removed/replaced with the panel intact.

how? the plastic at the bottom wraps right around it, i guess i could pull it down while im working near it, but how do i fit a screwdriver into it then?
