I had my car up in the air the other day and grabed my driveshaft for shits n giggles and was like WTF . I have about a half inch of turning play in my shaft. I kept doing it and found that the play was in the rear diff. when I say play I mean I can take my driveshaft and turn it about a half inch without the rear wheels or axels moving :nono: . Has anyone had this before. What can I do I mean is this a common problem. Oh and one more question My car is a 98, is that rear worth keeping. I dont know much about the rears as in what years were best. I have heard 98 were great then Ive heard they were horrible. Thanks in advance

hows your rear diff holding up?

I too have about a half inch of play at my rear diff also. If you are steadily cruising at 3-4krpm in 2nd and quickly let off the gas completly, does your car like slow and then jerk abit a few miliseconds later?? If i quickly let off the gas at low speed rpms my car seems to jerk from front to back, and im wondering if it could be from the rear diff play.

I'm going to put in some redline gear oil in asap [ gotta buy it online tomorrow first] and see if that helps with the jerking at all [ no idea when previous owner changed those fluids last]. my guess is the rear diff is probably shot, more than likely from original owner never changing fluid. I'm finding he skimped on just about anything besides 3k mile oil changes. [w00 180psi compression accross the board, p00 to NY raping the entire drivetrain ]
