Really Odd Shift Problems! Please Help!

Hey guys... Okay, I've got a 1997 Eclipse Gst A/T FWD. The car is giving me hell with shifting. Sometimes it will start fine in first gear and sift up through over drive just fine. However, alot of the time, the car will start off in 2nd, completely skipping first, and then it wil not go into overdrive. Sometimes if I put the car in nutral while moving at about 40 mph, turn it off, restart it, and drop it into drive again, it will then shift into overdrive. I know all this sounds like the control module, and I thought that is what it was, but I replaced it and it worked at first, but then it started all over again. Is there something else it can be or is there something that can cause the controller to go bad? Please help me out as this is my everyday driver. Thanks guys!

Is your check engine light on? It might show a transmission code, and if so, that would help.

It does have a check engine light... I will hook up the obd2 scanner and see what codes it throws. I will get back to you guys...

Been really busy and have not had a chance to find my scanner, but the car started shifting perfectly today... just kept driving it in 2nd and third and today at just all of a sudden started shifting right... 1,2,3,od... any ideas on why this could be intermitant?
