Please what is a realistic standard for tuning a 1G using the followig components:
1. 50 trim
2. FMIC
3. GM MAF-T
4. Walbro 255
5. 720cc inj's
6. Wideband a/f meyer
7. Scanmaster

The ride is a '93 AWD. There is much said, tune, tune and tune some more.
One question that there seems to be no answer for is knock sum. Please don't say zero. If you have zero knock I am pleased for you. Not all are that fortunate.
At what count is there zero affect?
At what count is there some timing puled?
What is the maximum count that should be a safe level for the motor that is original but well kept?
I have heard that 7 is where timing begins to be pulled. In 3rd gear @ WOT I have 10 counts of knock but 20 degrees of timing advance. This confuses me as I have also heard 15 degrees advanced is an acceptable minimum for timing. 20 degees seems pretty decent but if I had NO knock, if possible, would I have a significant gain in power? Thanks very much. If a moderator reads this I still cannt place a clasified with my webTV setup. I can log out, delete "cookies" but it must be the login where I fail. Mark

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it goes like this...
0-3 knock, timing is advanced
4-7 knock, timing is left alone
8 and above timing is retarded until knock sum drops below this threshold.

As far as a standard for knock and timing... I have always followed "as close to 0 as possible" and "as much advance as you can get without knock"

15* of advance is good, 20* is better, I have even heard of people getting as much as 25* and more with no ill effects, however, it all depends on how your particular engine responds to the tune.

Thanks that's pretty much what i have heard before. I have found out since I posted the qestion that injector duty cycle plays into the mix of timing nd my 720c inj's are mesing that up and the 40* weather and knock with light throttle bear that out. live & learn! mark
