Real Noob Question About Engine Oil.

Hey guys I am always on and off this forum so i have no idea if a thread on this topic already exists, if it does... sorry. So my question I have a 1997 Eclipse GSX and I am going to change my oil for the first time and I wanted to know whats the best kind of engine oil and filter or does it really matter. If you guys can shed some light on this for me it would really help THANKS

Doesn't really matter this is just personal preference. I usually use Mobil 1 with the Fram filters.

Mobil 1 oil with OEM filter. Stay away from Fram it has less filtration paper and no anti drain back valve they are cheap. Do a search on oil filters here and you will get more info

Amsoil is expensive though... but considered one of the best... Mobil 1 works great too. The amsoil is probably over kill... but I pamper my car

Do not forget to use a flush before you do your oil change unless you know you are using the same brand as the last owners of the car, thought i would throw that in since no one else did.

It is my understanding that oil-flushing products are mostly kerosene, and I don’t like the idea of putting kerosene in my engine. I know a few people that will put a half a quart of power steering fluid in the engine and let it run for 5 minuets before draining the oil. But I have not tried it so I could give a first hand account of the results.

I wouldn't recommend using a motor flush. I would say get some "store brand" oil like autozone oil, then drain the oil add the autozone oil and let run for 10 minutes. Then drain and add new filter, then use your preferred oil.

i believe there is already a huge thread on this topic, I don't have the link but try searching. engine oil is usually personal preference, but the best seem to be Mobil-1 and Royal Purple.

I use mobil 1 10w-30 but i herd if you are pushing higher boost, such as 20 or more you should use 5w-30. Please correct me if im wrong.

I dont think that is at all correct. The more boost=more heat=more strain on vital parts.

10w-30 is a good weight for a daily driver/weekend racer. If you are really pushing your engines limits 10w-40 or 20w-50 might not be a bad idea.
