I have a 99 GS-T with MT and 84000 miles. Today the car was running kind of slow (probably my imagination) in the morning but after driving for 5-6 miles it was back to normal.

When my sister opened the door and got out of the car I heard a weird rattling sound coming from the back. I knew it is a rattling exhaust and took a look at it in the garage. The thing was rattling and making that annoying sound (inaudible while sitting in the car).

My trouble is this... I am supposed to drive approx 150 miles tommorow morning. Will I be able to do this without any problems?

Thanks to everyone for being here for automobile-challenged people like myself :)

P.s. I did research this topic and the info was very helpful but my query is regarding the dependability of my car under a handicapped situation such as this. So please bear with me.

Do you have a downpipe on ## exhaust? Because the flex part of the pipe can sometimes make a little bit of rattle viberation sound. I know mine does from time to time.

sorry should have mentioned but my car is completely stock. it has the standard stock dual exhaust with the stock tips. this rattling was not there yesterday.

It depends on what is ratteling. Unless it's an absolute worst case scenario sort of situation you should be absolutely fine. My exhaust rattles in more than one place. :)

Have you gone underneath your car while the car is turned on? It could be that the exhaust flange might be stuck or touching the heat shield causing it to rattle when you throttle a little bit. I had the same problem, I only heard the rattle at low rpms while moving the car on 1st gear. My shield was touching the flange and that was why I heard a rattle noise. I fixed it by just bending the shield outward, away from the exhaust. It doesn't hurt to lift the car and see if anything is touching or rubbing.

PS: The shield is flexible so I used my hands to bend it away from the exhaust

Thanks guys!!!

GreddyGST I'll definitely check out the shield situation tommorow. I can bet it is the same problem as I check my exhaust all the time and never had the rattling before. Here's hoping!

vegancowboy... reading your post put my mind at ease, I'm hitting the road tommorow. thanks!

My friend with an integra had the same problem. At about 3k rpms he would hear a rattle from under his car and sure enough we jacked it up and revved it and it was his heat shield rubbing against his exhaust. Take a peek down there.

I also have the same rattle

It's actually coming from one of my factory installed exhaust tips on my stock muffler. (A bolt is missing causing them to rattle)

Check that before you go checking under the car to save yourself time. If it ends up being something else, then you can always just go under afterwards.
