i have a 5 bolt sway in a 95 eclipse gs-t. i have been searching, and i think my car is suffering from random misfires. most forums say that the pot mod might work, or dsmlink...but my car has a safc II installed on it, and im wondering if that will do anything for the random misfires? any info on random misfires would be greatly appreciated.

When you say "5 bolt sway" do you mean a 6-bolt swap, where an early 1g (91-92) engine replaces the stock '95?
There is a common problem with misfires for this sort of engine swap, with a confusion between the CAS (cam-angle sensor) and the ECU. A black top, 1g cas should be able to fix the problem.

There is no direct link between this problem and a solution found in an SAFC II. There may be problems associated with running incorrect fuel ratios, and therefore related to the afc, although this could not be verified without a Wideband Oxygen sensor (WBO2) and/or some sort of logging system that would help identify other potential problems.

Do you currently have a wideband sensor to find out if you've got the right fuel ratios? The SAFC is fairly useless without the sensor, as you will not get accurate readings with which to tune.

If you have a pocketlogger or some way to read the obd output you might be able to do some tuning as you just tune-to-knock although that method can be fairly dangerous (blow engine).

i dont know what it has. i bought the car at a dealer and found the it had a 92 motor in when i had the head gasket replaced.

And the dealer didn't mention anything about the misfire problem? Or did you get a discounted price because of it?

Take a pic of your engine bay and it might even have a different harness and ECU. If someone was so inclined to do the some of those modifications, you may actually have a much better vehicle than what you previously thought. Are there any DSM specific shops in your area that you could drive by and have them give you a list of actual equipment?

Sounds like when the swap was completed the CAS was not swapped with the motor. A bad or wrong CAS will absolutely cause misfires througout the RPM range and will sometimes put the car into limp mode. Which color CAS does the car have?

i dont know, this is my first dsm. where is the CAS located and what does it look like? i'll get a picture and post it on here later cause right now i have to go.

hey is a couple of pictures of my engine bay. im guessing on the one picture, the silver and black thing on the passenger side of the motor is the CAS? is this the right one? and if anybody can tell me anything else about my car by looking at these pictures would be very helpful...as i find new things out everyday.
