Random Idle

Ok my 97 gst is having some strange idle issues. It will sometimes idle at about 500 ish and the needle will hover up and down in that area. Sometimes it will idle at about 1500. Sometimes it will idle at about 1000. Any ideas of what could be causing this? I'm not really concerned about it, its just one of those annoying things. Also i have a 1st gen motor in the car (not sure if its 6 or 7 bolt). Any help would be great. Thanks guys. ( and yes i searched, just not sure if my situation is any different that anybody elses)

I would blame the ISC motor, you can do a simple OHMS test across the coils
off the top of my head I believe that between 2 and either 1 or 3 should be about 30ohms and the same goes for between coils 4 and either 5 or 6.
I could be wrong on the number of the coils but that's a good place to start.
You can also take out the ISC motor and hook up a 6v battery and see if it operates properly, if not, replace it

Ok last night I went for a cruise and hit had the normal random idle where it will just pick a random spot to idle at. But something new happended at 2 different stop lights, it would start at 1k rpms, then go up to 1.5k and then immediatly drop to 1k again. I am not sure what would cause that to randomly happen. And when my car is warm and I go to start it again it will idle really low so i'm guessing my ISC is the problem there.
