Random Drops in RPMs

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I have a 95 Eclipse GS N/T that is completly stock, excluding the addition of a hack magnaflow muffler some genious "ghetto rigged" before I purchased the car. I am in the process of getting up to date with all the maintenance,but the one thing that erks my nerves the most is that when idling, under deceleration, and sometimes during driving, the car's RPMs randomly and rapidly drop. Sometimes the car dies while I drive it. Could it be a bad fuel filter? or could it be as simple as changing the plugs, and wires? It's really frustrating and I'm ready for it to be fixed. ( Been putting up with this crap almost ever since I got the car.)( The car has just over 123,xxx miles.) Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

clean the throttle body, change the fuel pump, and while you're at it, i gaurentee the PCV has never been changed.

i would change the plugs, fuel filter, and oil.

just do regular maintenance.. u should be fine.. plugs wires.. fuel filter.. clean TB ..

its a misfire.. i had the same.. not a hot enough spark at high RPMs and intermittent drop on idle ..

changing the wires and plugs did the trick for me..

Injectors could be clogged too run some injector cleaner through it since it would be a cheap and easy fix.

Did you ever find out what it was? I am having a similar problem with my 96 RS. I've changed plugs, wires, battery, ignition coil, oil, air filter, exhaust manifold (Old one had several cracks in it), and removed the stupid half alarm that was left in the car from the last owner. Any information on what possibly fixed your issue would be very helpful.
