Racing Teams and Crews... who joins this goofy shit?

Ludachris you are right. My Honda friend did the same to me. I useto want a body kit, to go with my cheap 18s and stickers I had. But since he's converted me to a normal person I now have 18" Rays with no stickers, and I don't want a body kit to even come near my car; and I must say I'm lovin' life.
I get asked at shows by 'teams' to join their 'team', but I decline. The only people I want to hang out with are my fellow DSMers. :thumb:

I wonder how many of these people that have cars that look really fast but actually aren't, have actually had the opportunity to drive/ride in a car that's even somewhat fast. I'm 20 now and was pretty young when The Fast and The Furious came out. All I wanted was a car that looked/sounded like the cars in the movie... but oh yea... that was when I still had my little 1993 Toyota Tercel 4 speed!!! When I found my DSM (and I'm not trying to imply that it's all that fast) it took driving it only once before everything that had to do with sound/looks/image went right out the window... I was hooked. Hooked on the feeling of your body being shoved back against the seat and being forced to look further and further ahead because your vision slowly blurs from the sides in. I just wonder how many of these people know the feeling.... because to me... it seems like a feeling not many could deny as nothing less.. then totally sweet!

C³ (Tri-Cities) DSM

The main purpose of this "team" is to support local DSM Unity. Helping one another with our DSMs, and small group of people who share the same Love as their "crew" for DSMs.

It is in no way a 'Racing Team'

Ironicly "Infamous" was an old team but I grew out of that...

You picked a good name IMO. :thumb:

Sounds like you're still living in the F&F world....

Exactly... I still am... just not into the airplane wings, clinking shift noises, and vinyl graphics. No but seriously... as retarded as some people may think the movies are... whenever I'm starting to get a little less motivated about doing performance upgrades to my car, watching them somehow always gets me motivated again.

p.s. why do people watch these movies when they've already seen the previews and know what their going to be like, know hollywood and (in the case of the second one) have already watched the first one? Just always wondered that.

well usually friends make up something..everyone works on each others car , make up a name have a good time cruising around but :talon:

I live in the stix and last summer I started hanging out with some older guys that have some crazy fast cars (03 mustang mach 1, upgraded everything plus a 75 shot, 2 camaro SS's, one modded, the other fairly stock, a few other cars not worth mentioning, haha) We don't really have any fancy names or call ourselves a team or crew, but we do help each other modify each other cars, and we did quite a bit of cruising together, and every now and then get together and run em with some kids from other towns. Every now and then I'd have kids ask me how they could get involved with the "crew" and I didn't really know what they were talking about, haha. I just told em if they have some general automotive knowledge and can turn some wrenches they can come hang out. No one's ever showed up yet...

im in a show team... i like it. i think it's alot different from having a group of highschoolers street racing, to those who have good jobs and are in love with cars as their life or hobby. the team that im in is an older group of people (with the exception of me) and we have a hell of alot of fun with no highschool b/s and drama, just straight up business with a little mingling and drinking here and there. we get our business done then we have fun.. thats all. we have a couple euros (some bimmers, audis, vdubs), a couple Z's (custom widebody 350 etc.) some JDM cars, and some other stuff :D

Teams/Crews have only serve a purpose for a couple reasons.

A) If you all have the same car....Troubleshooting or work on the car is easy.
B) If you actively race
-Used to be on a team with an RX-7, Supra, 240, a 1g, turboed civic, and a Skyline.
-Depending on the type of race we'd decide who would race based on drivers/car's abilities.
C) Just alot of people in common hangin out.

Now it's lame if all you do is hangout at the Taco Bell a lean against your car and say "um yeah dude I wanna get T-1000 turbo with Nawwwwz!" ;)

Damn... Dr. Frankenstien would be impressed by the ressurrection job done on this thread OMG

here's my view...

a team is supposed to be your friends that you hang out with. you have the stickers to show who you are affiliated with when you go places. usually my team goes to car shows or to the track. we have some good looking and some fast cars. since i joined the team ive managed to convince some people to go to the track and stuff and keep the racing off the streets. its cool though cause i know i can call up a team mate and be like "i need to borrow your garage cause i gotta fix something" etc etc. during the winter we hang out at someone's house playing pool, poker, watching car videos, etc. during the summer we go to the track, we go to car shows, and we hang out at night at the local car hang outs and stuff. so what if we dont participate in some sort of major racing event? we are all friends and we share a certain enthusiasm for cars. we dont discrimiate either, i mean there is one kid on the team who has a new car like every other week. we have domestics, imports, turbo, non turbo, fast, slow, etc etc. thing is, we are just friends.

besides its cool to go someplace and hear someone say "oh shit. there's that OTL eclipse. that thing is quick." makes me feel better about my ####ing pos.

You just described 90% of the poeple on this board and there friends. They all happen to have the same HOBBY and hang out. I do exactly the same thing you do, but I dont feel the need to have a label of "team" to describe my friends.

As far as your car being recognized that will happen to any fast car. I have a buddy that has a "quick car" and he tried to keep it a secert and anytime he went somewere to race the car was already known.

i'm an 18y.o. from portland oregon and i love my dsm to death,i dont belong to any teams or crews but i would liek to meet people in the same genreal area with the same car and love for DSM's.

when i first got my car it had superstreet stickers up the rear end, since then ive been able to ripped them off andstill preserve the paint.

i would like to get into some racing but my budget is close to nothing so for now i stay out of it and i still watch F&F only for the excellent graphics and effects that they incorporated into the video, to understand my point of view about F&F you'd have to be into video editing and all of that as which i am into that sortof thing, but as far as the way that they portrayed the racing aspect of it is completely retarded and untrue, after people watched that movie i knew a bunch of kids talking about it all the time about how cool the cars were, the influence that F&F created has tottaly misguided the youth of today and destroyed what was once real and has flipped it into a fake lifestyle and completely over-rated, i only respect the real racers who are taking safety measures and taking there cars to the track.

so i respecta person that takes there hobby to the street, and groups and stuff arent bad aslong as its for a real reason not to just look cool together. :dsm:

I think this way too open. "Goofy"? Thats a little harsh and probably a little insulting to those of us that actually are a part of or run a car club. Me, myself I'm the head of my club, which started out as a group of my close friends. Yeah, there are a lot of ricer groups out there, but please dont generalize clubs like that. Why must everything come back to "Fast and the Furious"? Most of that crowd is easy pick out, and for the most part has shown their true colors and lost interest. Right now, me and mine are in the midsts of getting my boys 90' 300ZX show whorthy, and then to the point where it'll make one of the local car magazines they have down here. Once that project's done we're moving on to one of two things. Getting funds together to purchase a MX-3 V6, completely rebuild the engine and turbcharge it (or twin-turbocharge it just for the hell of it), strip it down and start running it at the track. The other option is dumping our collective efforts into another member's car (91' Probe GT 2.2L Turbo) and seeing how far we can get with that in the Amatuer/ Street Catagory. One thing, I do not tolerate in my club is STREET RACING. If I hear about one of my members going to participating in a street race, I oust his ass. I've already done it once... Heard the little ricer blew his engine from a "mis-shift", dont ask I dont know.

To call it "goofy" is a bit much. Hell, you know how many people call what we do nonsense, ridiculous, "pie" and "goofy" because we put so much time and money into our cars "All I need is a system and some nice wheels", well thats great for them. A club is a support group that helps you keep focus. Plus shops love it when you bring them exclusive business, a club can get you discouts and breaks in prices (mostly labor for crap we cant do ourselves). We have a regular performance shop we all go to and even a bodyshop for our... well body work. I know, I know, "I can do that by myself, i dont need some sticker and a shop banner on my windshield" Good for you! We dont use "club stickers" in my group, it was a thought, but after that damn movie way too many of them were popping up left and right. :thumb: :dsm:
