I just bought a modded A/t GSX. Does anyone have any good articles on launching an a/t awd dsm? Also, is 20psi too much to run... the car is modded greatly, includes water injection (windshield wiper fluid injection). Thanks

well, not that greatly, 16g, manual boost controller, 3inch exhaust, 2g maf, magnecore wires, FMIC, custom IC piping, 25shot of nitrous which i wont be using... stock internals, 65k miles on it

Search the A/T forum for details, but more or less jam the brake down, put the gas to the floor, let go of the brake when you get the third yellow light.

first off i saw you recently joined DSM board , please get use to the car first. When i use to go down the races i saw kids with new cars just do some STUPID things because they got a new "fast" car and didnt learn what the car could really do. Im not saying its you but i wouldnt want to see another perfectly good Tsi in the Junk yard.......oh yeah and wouldt want to see you get hurt

He's not going to need to run that auto tranny no harder than he already will be pushing it off the line. Plus he's new to the car... he don't need to go "spraying off the line" and 5 seconds later be calling AAA to come get his car on a flatbed.

I am saying a 25shot is a worthless nitrous shot, especially for a car with so much drivetrain loss.

AWD+automatic=30% drivetrain loss.

Making that nitrous shot worth 17whp, not going to win you any races. That is less whp than an exhaust. If you are going to spend teh $$ on nitrous and all its accessories, you should you a shot that is going to benefit the car. 40-80 shot would be a better choice is what I was saying.

With broken parts and if his entire body's shot up with sedatives maybe.
Biggest thing holding him back is his fuel system, but either way he DOES have a 16G, exhaust and a FMIC though

Please VRman dont take about what you dont know. First of all and automatic does have a bit more drivetrain loss but not an extra 9% and a 14.8? Please, just because its not a manual doesnt mean it cant be fast. It may take a little bit more to get to the same speed as a manual but it doesnt mean the car is junk. First of all an auto holds boost all the way down the track and autos can get a good launch. Like i said please dont open your mouth and downtalk people. The kid has a FMIC and a big 16g. My auto tsi beat my friends Gs-t (manual) when both cars where stock. :thumbdown

I dont think VRMAN is putting anyone down. The fact is an AWD with an auto has a huge amount of drivetrain loss. And a tiny 25hp shot of nitrous isnt gonna hurt anyone's transmission.

We upgraded his UICP, installed a ported 14B freshly rebuilt with install kit, full 3" exhaust and K&N intake. He is running consistent 15.2's with no knock and car as healthy as can be.

I am trying to give the guy an accurate portrayal of what he should expect, not pie in the sky numbers that are going to disappoint him when he gets back from the track. Its great that he has a 16G and FMIC, we don't know how good his "custom piping" is, maybe its 2.25" pressbent? And most importantly, on stock fuel and no SAFC, what can he possibly boost to propel him to decent times? I wouldn't recommend going over 13.5psi to be safe.

Difference is I am trying to give him an honest guesstimate based on a number of factors, not just going to massage his balls so he feels like he is going to cut 13s or something.

If I can assume he also has a BOV and boost controller, there's something wrong with his car or his driving.

You have a complex or something. I am not saying his car will always be slow, but as YOU even pointed out, he has NO fuel mods, thus limiting boost to around 13psi. His original topic post asked what he would run at the track, not what will he run when he installs 660cc injectors, race gas, boosting 19psi, alto end clutch and translab shift kit. If he did I would tell him he would be cutting mid 13s. But thats not what he asked, and he won't break 14.8 in an AUTO GSX with no fuel mods, sorry. Stop being in denial.

couldnt launch it... tourque converter would only allow 2000rpm at the line, i think the nitrous will help greatly

Anyways, thank you for proving my point. I don't know what everyone thought you were going to run, but I try to suggest REAL times. Up the boost if you have 550s, work on the launch and you'll see mid 14s. Good job on your first time. 2.9 on an AWD has loads of room for improvement. A full second to cut off.
