We decided that since we're not going to be able to participate in the NASA National Championship, we've been invited to, and will race California Speedway with TCRA (Touring Car Racing Association) http://touringcarclub.com/events/events_next.shtml

This is a three-day racing event starting on the 15th through the 17th of September. TCRA will be guests of HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing) http://www.hsr-westracing.com/ and should prove to be a great weekend of high performance wheel-to-wheel road racing against some of the nations top-notch drivers and racecars! The track will be the American Le Mans configuration, 3 mile oval and road course combined.

In the interim we discovered our loss of water was due to a “brand new” faulty water-pump. Personally I was happy to see that that was the cause of the over-heating and loss of water and not something more serious. We’ve also changed to Samco high temp radiator hoses and stainless steel t-bolt radiator clamps. Samco doesn’t make a set for the 1G so with a little ingenuity I’ve been able to use the 2G set with a little bit of re-fabrication. I’m also working on an aluminum air box to force feed the FMIC and radiator, for better air distribution. Included in our quest for a cooler engine compartment we wrapped the Tial dump-tube with header wrap. All is good with the “Flying Banana” and it appears that our learning curve is getting much smaller

WHAT WHAT WHAT?

they should have a defend your title clause where last years winner is automatically in or something.

anyways, I was looking at that site for a location, and saw this and FREAKED OUT.

Touring Car Racing Association
Event Registration
1035 S. Fremont Ave.
Alhambra, CA 91803

then I realized that alhambra is way to small and doesn't have a raceway and saw the actual location on the map and was very sad....

Yeah, you're way up by Berkley… at least a 10-hour drive to Riverside CA. Now think about towing a trailer that distance when we go to Laguna Seca.

As I’ve said, it would have been great to race Mid-Ohio but it just wasn’t in the stars, or our “pocket book” this year. We figure Cal Speedway will be a good testing ground in getting ready for our next NASA round at Buttonwillow in October.

Gotta race where and when you can Greg. We only have one NASA day left here, but it's 6 hours away (Hastings, NE) and I can't get my pregnant wife to ride in the Eclipse that long (don't want to go that far without a trailer anyway), so I'm trying to do a rent-a-car race weekend just so I can have one more event under my belt before next season. I'd like to get checked off for Time Trials early next season.

That's the one nice thing about California (the weather) and all the clubs out here. You can literally race about every weekend of the year with a different race group. I usually try and get two Cal Speedways in a year, just for the thrill of driving wheel-to-wheel on the high speed track...

So I'm watching Speed TV and see NASCAR doing their qualifying for Sundays race at Cal Speedway. Ambient temps are 105, track temps are 130, and inside car temps are 145... and it's only the beginning of September

Two weeks can make a lot of difference in the weather at either end of the summer. In May I ran BW twice. On the 18th it was over a 100 and on the 26th it was only low to mid 70s. I went to an IRL race at CalSpeedway one time and it was 117. I don't know how the people out in the sun survived.

Good luck!:tease:
