Anyone know the advantages or disadvantages of using race fuel(95-116 octane leaded or unleaded?) on a n/a? :talon:

How much more power? Will it harm any engine conponents like my 02 sensor or cat?

Ah ok here.... wait a min,,,,

Yes High oct gas can be a waste of money. Yes depending on the brand it can: foul spark plugs, foul the cat, foul the o2 sensor, All of which is not cheap

You can go and say "why your not a turbo"
This doesnt matter, You only use the highest level you can without getting detonation.
If you can run 89 with out ping. Use it......

Now for a N/A If you are running a High Comp motor. Then you might look at using it. This would be 13.1:1 or higher.
Turbo cars might us it at 9.0:1 running high boost levels

You dont gain power by moving up the oct level. Your motor was designed and built for a certain level. Each built motor is differant. Speak with your engine builder about what gas to use. Anyone using a stock or near stock should be running 89 or 91 max.....

please explain this one to me?

last time i checked, higher octane makes a car less likely to knock because it is harder to ignite. being harder to ignite means its harder to burn, which means its gonna be harder for your car to burn and you will LOSE power.

like someone else said, use as low of octane as you can. our cars are suppose to run on 87. run it that way

and please do not spread misinformation

Your a little off here. you want to try and run as low of octane without detonating. the higher you go, the less you will detonate.

you need to be running higher octane gas with any type of forced induction or high compression. i would run 93 running 10.5:1 compression. ive heard people running 12.5:1 knocking during idle with race gas. and if you have a turbo, you need to be running premium fuel. if you are using nitrous, you should be running premium fuel.

anyone that is stock or near stock should be running 87

Higher octane gas does not make you more power. It allows you to tune and adjust boost higher with out experiencing knock as soon, or run higher compression TO make more power. just puting in race gas will not give you any advantage sometimes it even runs your engine lean unless tuned for it..

Running 87 gives me an incredibly rough idle and slow response times. I'll stick with 93 or mix of 89 and 93. Thanks.

With 87 the car ran fine, no difference with 91, so unless you are using some kind of FI you may as well stick to 87 or 89 as the eclipse owners manual states.

that might be all in your head, line most NA mod gains seem to be. like when people say they got a good acceleration gain from a bigger fuel rail

This thread is definately an informative thread. I've been running 92 octane thinking I'm doing a good thing, and now I've come to find I could have been saving money on 87-89 the whole time. Dammit man! OH well, one more question, I plan on tuning my car using my SAFC2, and lean it out a lil more, however I was wondering should I keep running the higher octane fuel and lean it from there or go to like 89octane and tune it using that octane?

I haven't hit the dyno yet, so I want to be very consistant with the exact mods for this tuning session. So let me know please?

Im running 91 (best i can get for daily driven) and 100 octane when im using my nitrous, however im gearing up to do a propane system so i can actually SAVE money now on the gas.

umm you should be fine running 87. i was running 93 before because of my nitrous but its been acting up lately so i disconnected it from the tps sensor to stop getting a cel from it. so i stopped getting 93 and started getting 87 again. im still using the same settings on my afc and everything is fine. you could run 89 if you want to be safe.
