R.I.P.

420a to 4g63 swapped eclipse rs. I also swapped it from an auto to a manual. I bought this car from a junkyard with no engine. It's currently a doner for my 95 eclipse rs.

It's been a hot minute but I finally am getting around to wrenching on the talon again. Ive been grinding hard at my new job so I've had zero time. My clutch felt real funky right at the end of summer. While I have the engine and trans out I'm going to sand the rest of the car and paint it. Just a little update on what's been going on.

Had a little free time this evening, so I yanked the engine. I'm going to be sanding the engine bay and getting it ready for paint. Its still fully spunked from last summer. Hopefully this will be the last time I pull the thing.

Any input as to why you chose the low rise instead of the high rise? It wasn't really my taste either. I bought a high rise hatch and spoiler, installed it for about a day and took it back off. It's just a big ass piece of plastic, appropriate for the 90's I guess but I wasn't feeling it for this car. Now I've fully deleted the spoiler. It's a smooth car without one.

I dont mind the look of the high rise, but without sideskirts I think the car looks great either without the rear spoiler or the low rise. I also had on my non turbo in high school with a low rise so nostalgia plays a little role in it to. You are right though going with no spoiler looks extremely nice to as I've been running without one.

A little update on the paint scheme for the engine bay. I decided to re paint black because unfortunately I still cannot decide on a color. I want it either red or white and having the bay a neutral color will allow me to keep moving forward. I also found out that I had an unsprung clutch installed so a little chatter was normal, but im going to be putting a more appropriate clutch in for daily driving.

So I've decided to make my talon more stock. I tried my best to paint up some of the stock parts I had laying around. I already had a powder coated t25 from awhile back. I'll just keep plugging along and update along the way.

Well another solid test drive for the books. I had a couple oil leaks that I addressed from last summer that seem to be gone now. I also have to fork out for a new battery unfortunately the one I had decided to dump out this winter.

Well guys I traded the subaru off for this 95 gsx! She needs some pretty heavy tlc but I'm extremely excited to add another to the fleet.

So I'm going to grab the Talon/Eclipse in a couple weeks from storage. I'm on the fence if I should complete it or use it as parts. The only reason I'm even suggesting the partout for the other builds idea is because it still needs a GST dash wiring or whole dash. It also needs an engine.
It's a clean shell so I was either going to finish it or cut out parts for my other eclipse that's pretty rusty. I just can't decide at the moment. But I am itching to do something with it.

I'm leaning towards parting it especially for the roof. If things go south on my other car I'd like a backup just in case. But then again it wouldn't be hard to get it back on the road.
I wouldn't ever say I wasted my time on swapping the front clip either because I do things to learn and see if it's possible, for a regular person like me anyways.

Alright so I finally went and grabbed my Talon that's been sitting for awhile now. I honestly cannot justify cutting it up for parts because of how clean it is but the gears are turning. I'm thinking since my RS is rusty and I keep finding more and more cancer I feel like I'm better off swapping front clips. It sounds stupid but that's about the only good thing the RS has to offer. I still have strut tower rust to fix and the rockers are rusty along with some very weird rust in the trunk. I was going to use the Talon as a donor but what's the point in chopping up a clean car when I can swap everything from the RS like doors and the hatch/hood over. Fixing rust and extracting broken bolts really has drained me.

The only reason I'm coming up with this idea is because I attempted to weld the roof on the RS and everything was going great. I kept cold wet rags by and just kept taking my time but eventually things started to warp. I could use bondo and you'd never even know but I really can't stand it. It warped in 2 spots and I was almost finished, so now as I'm annoyed I'm just thinking about swapping front clips and keeping the build moving.

I know alot of people would be wondering why would I want to swap front clips. It's technically a GST now and probably better in a sense for aftermarket parts and what not. Well for one it's a Frankenstein believe it or not. The dash isn't right whether that being it's a 95 dash or a non turbo dash I can't scan the car or anything. The transmission had a weird first gear grind when it got warm. Also when I did swap the front clip it was rusty so I'm not real happy with the custom stuff I had to add to it. The biggest thing being I love the 420a it was my very first car that had that engine so nostalgia hits me hard every time. I'm not looking to make power because I'm building a show car after all.

What's really on my mind right now is I could leave my 95 RS for now and come back to it later and just continue on the Talon. I'd just start building it as it sits and not swap front clips. I'd have to of course do I stock build on it which would be fine but I already have everything to build my 420a. I'm like a squirrel at the moment and I can't really decide what to do, so I'm just typing out my thoughts as of now. No decisions have been made yet I'm just juggling between the 2 right now. I'll throw in some pictures just to show the difference between the cars.

That's exactly my thought process. I know I won't be cutting up the Talon I just dont know if I want to swap front clips or not yet. The rust isn't exactly the worse I've seen on the RS but I'm just super bummed out from it at the moment, the roof not going my way just leaves me wanting to fix the Talon right now. I just can't decide whether or not to condemn the RS for the Talon or just fix it later on.

Update on the talon.

It is officially chopped up into 5 sections. The talon was to messed up in the front to justify keeping it going. It's sad with all the work I put into it, but I learned alot doing it. The roof skin will be swapped to my 95 rs along with the rockers and whatever else.

That's the end of this build thread. If anyone ever has any questions about 4g swapping their 420a, I can confidently tell you it's alot of work. If I had the choice to do it again I probably wouldn't. I'm way to ocd now and it's months of work.
