quick wiring question

hey, on the glove compartment light, the wiring going to it...its green with a red stripe, and then green with a white stripe. which one is positive and which is negative? thanks alot

I don't have my wiring diagrams here at work, but there's an easy way to check if you have a multimeter. Change the setting to measure resistance (ohms) and measure the resistance between each wire to a known ground (negative battery terminal, the head, any ground wire, etc.

The negative will have very little resistance, the positive's resistance will be in the mega-ohms.

ok so heres whats wrong now. i pulled out the glovebox compartment light, stripped the wires carefully, and went to test their polarity, i wanted to see which was positive and which was negative, as i was going to hook up some custom LED work that i did...i made sure not to touch the two wires together. well when i went to test, the tips of the testers sparked, then all of my dash lights went out, which followed a click from inside the engine bay. i have checked fuses, and they appear to be good. right now i have no
outside running lights, interior dash lights, and rear taillights. but i do have headlights(high and low beams), fog lights, celeling lights, radio, turn signals, brake lights, and horn. also, the car starts and runs fine. what could it be this time?
