Quick question bout exhaust shops

I live in ohio where we dont have emissions. I plan on having my catless downpipe and exhaust installed by a shop locally. My friend said it was illegal for them to install it becuase im not gonna be running a cat. Id install it myself but its gonna need cut and welded. Is this true about being illegal. or will anyone put my exhaust on. and what would you say would be a good price for putting a megan racing downpipe and hks carbon ti exhaust on. 100-200 or less. THanks

yes it is illegal but their are a lot of shops that will do it, even here in California. All of my friends run no cats and they all found shops that removed them. Try to be very friendly with some muffler shops.

last i knew it was a $10,000 fine for a shop taking off a cat and not replacing it...... if they got caught. but i have been told by shops it is perfectly legal to screw with the cat ( hallow out, remove) if you do it your self. just my $.02

Any GOOD muffler shop mostly individually owned ones will do anything the customer wants! You can somewhat legaly have a no-cat exhaust system installed if your just building a race vehicle and have a racing permit.

i live in ohio there is no fine for not having a cat trust me the only thing u would get pulled over for is being to loud! i went and had a 3 inch exhaust system put on my supra from the cat back and the exhuast shop just pulled all the crap outa the cat..
so just keep it quite!

i think its funny people in cali trying to give advise on admisions when ohio doesnt have any law on it

My exhaust is catless, (cat-elim d/p) and the exhaust shop where i had my exhaust done didn't even ask an questions. I dropped it off w/ the downpipe on and the muffler in the pasenger seat, told em i wanted a 3" mendrel bent system. They called me back an hour later and told me it was done.

Cash is king, and can keep anyone from asking questions.

ya me too, on my last laser i said i want 2.5 inch cat back with no cat, they said ok, no problem at all. even paid with debit.

this is what you do.

you have them make you the test pipe fromt he stock piece so it bolts on. if its something like a test pipe it is ILLEGAL for them to personally install it. they can make as many of them and sell as many as they want, though they cannot install it. but you can take the part home and install it yourself, and keep the old one just in case. its that simple.

Ohio DOES have emissions laws... just only in 17 of the 88 counties. Down here in Cincinnati area we all have it. Toledo and Cleveland area has it. Im not sure about around columbus but i beleive thats it. We have to go to echeck where all they do is check to see if you have a cat (hmm, heatshields covering exhaust pipe look like cat to me)

so not all of ohio is free of the stupid crap.
