I just got back from getting my custom exhaust made....3" SS turbo back with magnaflow CAT and muffler. Since they couldn't just weld the pipe to the turbo they kept like an inch of the stock pipe from the turbo and welded that to the 3" pipe, will this hurt performance at all? Why couldn't they just attach the downpipe to the turbo?

The turbo's outlet is smaller than 3". Stock turbo, right? The flange shape is also different for the DP to turbo.

yes 14b, so is this what exhaust shops usually do, when i went in i thought it would be able to connect right up to the turbo, is there some outlet you can buy that is 3" that can fix this?

yea like they had the stock piece and then they put like a SS piece between the stock piece and the 3" piece, is that good? Also you can get an upgraded O2 housing for the 14b they as the 3" outlet? I guess i can buy that and have someone weld that in place for me then.

Search the common DSM vendors, there should be plenty. Make sure the welds on your exhaust are thick.

My 16G has a 2-1/2" outlet, the DP goes from 2-1/2" to 3" in a roughly 5"-6" transitional section.

Someone else would have to chime in, but I would think even an upgraded O2 housing would only get you to 2-1/2".

Hahn Racecraft (HRC) has a beautiful piece that is 3" with fat welds.

That's the one I have. It is actually a 2-1/2" tubular O2 housing, very nice part. The only problem is that it will only work with their HRC Eliminator jr. DP, which as stated, has a 5"-6" long 2-1/2" to 3" taper at the start of the DP.

This one is a 3", but as with the previous one above...it only works with the HRC DP.

so it's not really worth it to get the 02 housing then? just leave it as is? I don't even know the stock diameter piping.
