quick newb boost leak test question

ok i have the boost leak tester on the turbo inlet. do i need to turn the car on to pressurize it?

No, you need to hook up air to the valve on the tester. Fill to about 15-20 psi, if your compressor has a regulator I would turn the pressure down so you don't over pressurize your system.

There should be a valve stem on the end of your BLT. Use a air compressor to pressureize the system. If you don't understand just post a pic someone will let you know whats up.

I wouldn't test it with more then 20 psi tho. Just a fyi

Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? If not you cant go off the one in the car. Hope your not doing that. If you do and its not holding boost then where do you hear it leaking out at? If you have a MBC make sure to remove it when testing. You want get the pressure a little higher than what you will be boosting. I run 30+psi so I test to around 32psi on my car.

I dont have an aftermarket gauge, I ordered the boost leak tester with a gauge on it from boostpro.net. I dont know what mbc is ... and im just trying to test it to 20 psi.. god damn air compressor is so loud i cant hear anything but i will see what i can hear i guess

is there something I need to cover ? its still not building pressure at all. there was some air coming from boost controller. what about the pipe that comes from the turbo and goes down and has an open end? do i need to cover that?

oh.. dur.. yea i have a mbc, ... and wtf that pipe has been like that since i had the car.. the car been driving nice up up to like 2 weeks ago... although it does make one ugly sound under full throttle... well this is awesome. also just realised my downpipe is hanging by one bolt. and i found something else that looks like a cork with wires going into it thats just loose in there. so i guess im off to find out what to do with that open end pipe first... and see if i can find the intercooler intake to connect it to with a hose if i understand correctly?

That "pipe that is not hooked up to anything" is your atmospheric o2 dump. NO that does not hook up to your intercooler as previously stated!!!

You need to let your compressor fill up and store air for you. I have a cheap compressor from walmart, I let it FILL to 100 psi that way I had it sitting in the tank. I then hooked the compressor to the Boost leak tester, and WATCHED THE GAUGE to see how much air was going in. DO NOT GO MORE THAN 20 psi. If you're not holding any air that you have a massive leak. Start by looking around your Throttle body/intake manifold/injectors/intercooler etc. Continue doing this until you are able to hold air.

Obviously shut the compressor off or you will never hear a leak!. Spray all fittings with soapy water and look for bubbles. U can also use a bicycle pump if u have one, to pressurise the system.

i have a cap i fit over my turbo inlet and a end on it that fits to a tire hook up. i just turn my compressor to 20psi and away i go let it fill up and soap down look and listen. i also then put it on the intake manifold to test there. it showed a leak on my injector o ring that it did not when hooked up by turbo

i believe the compressor is a pos because it wont hold over 20 psi. god damn compressor has a boost leak FML

like the hose thats on the turbo inlet that you have to remove in order to put on your tester, with the tester on and adding air, air is coming from the hose i removed from the turbo inlet

Alright, Boost tester is tightly coupled to the turbo inlet. I have bypassed the MBC. I have the BOV recirc hose plugged.. still not holding any pressure. By the way... when I had the mBC hooked up it was leaking air out of a little hole it has... is that supposed to be like that? I sprayed the places where there are couplers and shit... no bubblez.

anyone know a good shop in maryland? I need 2 fix 2 oil leaks, boost leak, my suspension probably needs to be checked out, i believe i have a bent strut or something because of uneven tire ware and took it to get aligned and they couldn't do it. Basicly I want a shop that can look at everything on my car and tell me what needs to be fixed and then fix it with preferably aftermarket parts. I was thinking about taking it to the dealership, i know it would be expensive as shit but im willing to pay for quality.
