Quick question, just need to know if i need to tighten this bolt.

i keep thinking maybe i should have posted this in the newbie section LOL. but in this picture, the arrow points to a bolt that is about 5 millimeters backed out. i also notice a leak spot under the car after its been parked. just want to make sure i should tighten it, i dont wanna screw something up if for some reason it should be left like this. also, i should prolly check the tranny fluid? how do i do that? thanks for the help

Dont have a 2g so dont really know where youre looking. But if its loose definately tighten it. Can you turn it by hand? Check your manual in the drivetrain section and you should be able to find a torque value.

i dont have the manual :notgood:

i think im probably just gonna tighten er up. it seems like it would make sence.

............... there is clearly a loose bolt that is leaking oil out of it and your not sure if you should tighten it because you dont want to screw something up? im not trying to be mean but this isnt even newbie worthy. tighten the bolt

i also noticed you are auto fwd, this car is manual awd. If you do know i need to tighten it for certain, then i apologize for doubting you.

dude it does not matter. it can be your car or a honda generator. i just think its common logic that if there is a bolt backing out of your car with oil leaking out of it, it needs to be tightend.

Manual transmissions are sealed, there is no way for tranny fluid to leak out, unless the tranny has a crack in it. There is also no way to check the tranny fluid level, there is no dipstick. You have to remove the fill plug on the front of the tranny (towards the front bumper), make sure the car is on level ground, then fill the tranny till fluid starts coming out the hole and plug it back up. About the bolt, its pretty safe to say that any bolt backing out should be tightened back in. As for the leak, are you sure its tranny fluid? If so, i would clean up the tranny with a clean dry rag, then put cardboard under the car. Wait for a drip and follow where it fell from, then you will know where the leak is at. If you fill the fluid too high in a manual tranny it will leak out through breather holes on the tranny, keep that in mind also.

thanks spoolin98 - since then i had run into another local DSMer, who ended up coming over and helping me with everything, im all set now. :thumb:

Wow, This is like Daja vue. I just had a problem with some fulid leaking on my driveway. So i jacked it up in my gargae and noticed that SAME EXACT bolt loose on my transmission (i have a fwd manual). Sure enough all i had to do was tighten it and the leaking went away.

And to think all that worring over some stupid bolt....must be a DSM thing :)
