Quick help. Throttle cable.

Will a missing throttle cable cause a car not to start/run?

You can still start the car without the cable. You won't be able to move around though but it will start.

well I know you need one to drive so if you plan on driving any time soon you need 1 .

Yeah, it WILL start and run assuming there is nothing else wrong besides a missing throttle cable. It will idle, but you just won't be able to give it any gas without the cable. (of course)

doesnt the throttle cable being pluged in pick the throttle up a little bit? i dont think it would especially on an old car where you probably need to give it a little extra gas to get it started...

No, the cable doesn't affect anything for idle or starting. You may notice the pedal depresses a bit when you start the car and that would just be the vacuum pull on the throttle plate. There are no sensors or actuators with the throttle. Purely mechanical actuation.

If you need to press the gas in to get the car started then there is an issues you need to find.

Thanks alot guys. The car did start, and idled PERFECTLY.
We just had to push it on the trailor.
I was asking cause I bought my first TSi, that needs a throttle cable.
