I have 3" exhasut all the way back no CAT. Every so often I get CEL. I reset ECU ( pull the big yellow fuse). I assume that the randome CEL is caused by the lack of CAT. I do notice that right before the CEL gets thrown my car starts to idle really rough as well as drop down to almost 300RPMs when I shift "nicely" or come to a stop. I have heard that if I take the last O2 and add a couple of washers, it will read cooler and stop CEL. I have also considered doing the O2 hack in VFAQ http://www.vfaq.com/mods/O2bypass.html. I want to get a wideband to properly tune my car. Please help me.
Here is my basic knowledge (or there lack of) of A/F, ECU, and O2.
The O2 sensors job is to establish if the ECU made the proper adjustment. The ECU is "self learning" and is always trying "guess" the next movement . The ECU doesnt care what CC the injectors are or the LPH of your fuel pump, it only cares that it maintains a "status quo." So when I get close to throwing a CEL, I assume that the ECU has built enough of a database with what it considers wrong movements, and says ok O2 isnt working properly (In my case reading lean on my light show). The ECU is making adjustments, but according to what the O2 is sending back to the ECU, it is making the ECU determine that the proper adjustments weren't made. Hence the CEL.
So riddle me this Batman.
Does wideband O2 replace a stock 02 sensor or do you install else where?
If this does replace stock, how does this effect the ECU's calculations?
How will this effect things because I have no CAT?
Should I just bypass my last O2?
Thanks in Advance,
