Hello,
So I know this is my first post here, (I think) but i've been browsing and reading these forums for months just trying to get some information and ideas together. And I think i've settled on a plan.
But I've come to a fork in the road and I'd like some opinions. My 98' GS has just turned the mark of 150,000 and I'm thinking it might be a good idea to do a rebuild before I get started with anything else. But I have some problems with this idea.
My original plan was to build my own turbo kit (I'm a huge DIY person, I HATE to give my car to a shop as they never know what the heck their doing.) and do the install myself this summer, and run about 5-7 psi until the rebuild within the next year afterwards. And well if the engine blows, I'm going to rebuild it anyway.
But my question is, due to the high mileage on my car, would it be wiser to just rebuild it now and wait till next summer to go turbo? And if that's the case how large of an effect am I going to see on gas mileage and power due to the lowered compression until I do start boosting it?
