I don't really know much about the link but I do know its way better than the SAFC with the pocket logger. So i just ordered my E316G and was gonna order the fuel kit from extreme but I'm wondering if I should just get dsm link instead. I could get some used evo injectors and maybe there pump or buy one. I already have a laptop so what all would i need to run dsmlink and what does it cost?

You're going to need a DB9 cable to connect to the laptop and then the dsmlink connector. Also if your laptop doesn't have a serial port, your going to have to pick up a USB to serial adapter. Keyspan and the radio shack versions seem to be the best and possibly the only ones that work. Dsmlink can log better and more info than any logger and can tune a million times better than any other piggyback system so i strongly suggest picking it up. Dont forget that you need an eprom ECU and your going to have to socket it to put the dsmlink chip version in it.

I highly suggest having Link be your first and last tuning program. Unless you're running a full-race car, in which case, AEM has its benefits. But for streetability, price, and customer support, DSM Link absolutely cannot be beaten.

DSMlink is the way to go.

So many features for such a low price. Even if you have a race car, DSMlink is still an excellent option.

DB9 cables are USB-to-Serial. More information about these cables and their compatibility with dsmlink can be found on the DSMlink-Wiki pages..

Hope you don't have a Sony VAIO. Mine doesn't work with DSMlink or a logger using a USB-serial cable, though my desktop works fine. Looks like I need to buy a cheap old laptop on ebay with a serial.

I have a VAIO and it works fine with Dsmlink and AEM, using the Keyspan serial to usb converter. Which serial to usb converter are you using?

I have the PalmConnect usb-serial converter. But I had the exact same problem with my logger before so I thought it wasn't the cable. But I'll buy a keyspan one just to make sure.

2gAWDTalon's laptop (a Pentium II in rough shape) connected to my car fine. My laptop failed to connect to his car's dsmlink, just like mine. I should have tried his cable on my laptop.

I would definitely try a different cable before buying a laptop.

I have a vaio PI 233mhz and it connected to dsmlink also. It's old and battery life wasn't good though. I see you figured out that you were using the wrong adapter to connect though :p

I was? I'm still trying to get confirmation of that. I have two OBD2 adapters, a female and male one and have no idea which is dsmlink. I think it's the male one which would mean I was using the palm one (female) to try and connect this whole time.

Did you guys get PC-interface cables with yours? I didn't. I thought you at least get a serial cable with the dsmlink package.

Sounds like the serial port is either defective, disabled in the bios or something else is taking up the IRQ that it's set at. If your friends latop connects to your car via your cable, there is nothing wrong with your cable. All serial ports are the same regardless which brand laptop you have, as long as they're using the same operating system, therefore the problem must be the serial port itself.

Turned out to be the usb-serial adapter. The PalmConnect one I have does not work with dsmlink. So I went out and bought the Keyspan one and it worked first try. :thumb:
