I'm starting to piece a turbo kit together, mostly in my head, and I need to find out where to get parts from, what manifolds work, what turbos to look into, etc. As for the parameters for what kind of street set up I want, I'm looking for a pump gas, daily driver, stock internals (maybe cams at the most). And I dont want to be pushing the stock block to its limits, I want it to be reliable. A lot of the parts Ive been thinking about, Ive heard stories of those certain manifolds cracking, etc... I know this is a pretty bland thread, but I just need to know what parts I should stay away from due to quality, and if this seems like a very possible/practical setup, etc (also, please no vendor bashing)

Heres whats been going through my mind recently:

Like I said, this is just a rough draft, and not a wishlist. I already have a Apex-i SAFCII, and a HKS turbo timer waiting to be installed. Any help in which parts to stay away from, what i should add, or what i should definitely go with will be greatly appreciated. :thumb:

I would recommend a DSMlink. Other than that looks like you have a pretty decent setup going. If you want to maximize that setup then your gonna have to get cams, fpr, and doing some head work. But I think for your needs, your list is perfect.

Although you mentioned "practical" I think your setup is leaning towards the visually appealing side. As far as parts to stay away from, looks like you already got it. The infamous SAFC. Sorry man, by the looks of it you're anticipating making some serious power. You might find yourself banging your head against the wall by going cheap on the tuning solution. Good luck with all of that. :thumb:

i have never used the safc...but i know dsmlink is a breeze to tune with. i went with it because of the posts compairing the two. the safc does the job, but the link is really easy to tune with plus a logger all in one, with loads of support on their forum. cost more after all is done, but worth it. plus get a fpr. maybe upgrade the rail feed from banjo bolt to -an fittings.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, I said a practical setup, but I cant go without the eye candy. :D The deal with the SAFC, I bought it from my buddy, pretty good deal, couldnt pass it up. But I should look into DSMlink, didnt even think about it. An FPR was another thing on my mind, but seeing is how majority of you mentioned it, looks like I am gonna add it, any recommendations? Now as far as cams, definetly HKS. Would 272°/272° be too big? I dont mind a nasty idle. But I hear big duration + big turbo = good.

Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate it.

CHRISSS, your set up sounds pretty saweet man, you told me to take a look. so what made you choose that specific turbo? why not go BB. like a GT3052 or something?? or a green? you could always buy my T04E for 400 brand new!! LOL. i personally think you should get a centerforce clutch. I heard that the pressure from ACTs clutch help to induce crank walk.

That turbo is an all around great turbo, excellent turbo for the setup i am aiming for. But I know a guy that can get some killer turbos for cheap, I'll have to talk to him before i make my final decision, either way its gonna be a 50 trim. As far as the Centerforce clutch, i heard the life expectancy is pretty short on those. But I don't remember exactly how the drivers used their cars when it came to those Centerforce reviews, they may have been drag cars that hardly ever see the streets  I'll do some research. Another thing I heard about the ACT2600, when it comes to inducing crankwalk...I heard if you disable the clutch pedal safety switch to where you can start the car without having to disengage the clutch, CW shouldn't show its face. Can any of you other guys give some input on clutches? Thanks :thumb:

so thats why i can start my car without the clutch!!! LOL i never knew why. yah i know they are great turbos christopher, i was just wondering your personal opinion, and what was making you like that specific one over the others and over the ball bearings...so what kinda deals are we talking about on these turbos and y u never tell me!!! ur set up sounds good man, just wait til i get mine so we can have some fun together LOL. n then tara can pull you too!!! j/k

my set up looks kind of like yours.

i have an RS60T (AGP),750 Injectors,Water Injection,2g Pistons, Built Head,FP2 Cams,2g Manifold,38mm Tial WG (no where to mount yet) 3" RnR turboback.. some other goodies.. i am very satisfied with my setup.. if your spending the money though, i think you should just go with the 60-1 trim, there both the same price. :thumb: also, i have DSMLink.. its something you NEED when running a turbo 50 trim or higher.. well you dont need but its highly reccomended.. cant go wrong with a studder box mauaauahuah :sneaky:
