Question to the Chicago Dsm'ers about emissions

Well my question is i wanted to eliminate my cat when i get my catback system put on would i pass by the emissions with no cat ??....would i have to put resionators in , and on more thing since my cars AWD do they have a AWD dyno to test me on. thanks Pat

No you wont.

I think our cars are obd2 which means that they might just plug the car in, if not then yes you get to ride the AWD


Get a bolt in cat, that way you can bolt in a straight pipe and then bolt it out when its emissions time.

I may not be much of a help because Chicago hasn't required me to get smogged yet, but I think you should get a hi-flow cat year round. It'll save you time to unbolt it for a straight pipe and visa versa, and I believe that there aren't any significant hp losses with a hf.

a couple months ago when i was living in chicago, i went to the emmisions station over in Hillside, IL off of Mannheim road.

since my car is awd, they couldnt put my car on the dyno.
all they did was check my gas cap, put a meter in the exhaust, and put this meter that looked like a sponge on my hood(which was to check the idle).

i passed with flying colors.

i doubt you will pass emissions without a cat.
the computer prints out a sheet with everything it checked on your car. a bad cat, or no cat will show up very easily.

my suggestion would be to get a hi flo cat, just so you dont have to worry about it.

p.s. they didnt drive my car or anything of that nature.
they did look under my car with a mirror to see the cat.

when i got mine done, they put something on my exhaust and sat in my car and rubbed my hood w/ something. all and all i passed!

Thanks for the info... looks like im gunna get a hi flow cat...any ideas of where i could get a good one for a good price
