The car is a 91 Talon TSI 5 spd - see my profile for questions on exact config.

I've had the car pretty much in storage for the last year or so and have recently brought it out, driven it home, and have been using it 50% of the time as daily driver.

Recently I took it into the shop to have a seal on the crankshaft replaced as it would start to make some weird vibrations. Please note though that the problem that I'm about to describe started before I took it in for that repair.

The problem is as follows:
Sometimes - not always, but a fair amount of the time - just after starting to move from a stop, I'll notice vibrations when driving (not when the car is out of gear - but when it's typically in 2nd or 3rd it's noticable). Again, this isn't always happening, but sometimes when I mildly accelerate, somewhere around 2000 or 2200 RPMs, I start to notice a vibration that feels like it's coming from the front left quarter of the car. If I continue to accelerate to ~3000-3500 RPMs, it continues and feels almost like a flat tire would. If I then back off acceleration or briefly step on the clutch, the vibrations stop.

I don't believe I've felt this in 1st gear, and I haven't noticed it either in 4th or 5th.

Any guesses as to what might be going on here, the severity, or other?

If you need more info, just let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

is it a steering wheel vibration or one that you feel on the floor? maybe you have a busted motor mount or you have bad or worn u joints?

the vibration or rumble I hear sounds more or less come through the engine compartment or the front left quarter of the vehicle - however I don't feel any vibrations in the floor or on the inside of the vehicle - I only hear the sound.

The sound is more or less the same sort of sound you'd hear when a tire goes flat and you'd try to drive on it (the clunka clunka clunka sound for each revolution)

I'm more thinking it's to do with my left front axle or something else possibly in drivetrain ... any other thoughts out there?

Sorry, ujoint could definitely be part of the equation, I didn't mean to discount that suggestion...
