Question about water pump and timing belt.

I have to get my water pump and timing belt replaced. The mechanics quoted the repair between $600-$700 labor included. Does this sound right or am I getting ripped off? Thanks

The local Mitsu shop here chrges $350 for the timing, not too sure how much the water pump would be, but that does sound high.

sounds about right from a stealership. the waterpump shouldn't be any extra labor because it's just 5 bolts when the tbelt is off.

take it to your local DSM specialist and save money

Where are you taking it? That sounds up there. Do it yourself and save the dough.

Or at least take it to someone who is trusted in your community.

That is a pretty high quote on parts/labor even if they replace all the pulleys (3), tensioner, seals (5), bb, tb, and wp. As stated, 95% of the labor is getting to the tb. If it is just a tb, bb, tensioner job that is rediculous. Buy all the mentioned parts, find a buddy to help, and save yourself half of that. Plus you learn something along the way.

actually.. price break down is like this (i should know, I just did it)

tbelt - 85
autotensioner - 100
waterpump -130
pulleys - 100
Bbelt - 45

so it adds up.. but then again, this is all OEM stuff from the stealership

Oops, your right. I meant to say UNLESS they replace everything. Just a standard tb, bb, tensioner, wp job is high at $6-700. Anyway, if you do the work yourself, you can replace everything for quit a bit less.

buschur has the belt kit for $200. it includes the balance belt, timing belt, tensioner, and serpentine accessory belt.
