Ok so I've been reading about the 16g turbo on here. My question is I've read that there are 2 types of 16g a small one from an evo 3 and then a bigger one. I'm new to dsm's and just got my gsx couple days ago and planning to upgrade to a 16g. My goal right now is to get up around the 275hp. In that case what would be better for me a small 16g or the evo8 one? Does the 16g bolt right up or will I need an evo manifold or something? I wanna push a little over 15lbs of boost maybe 18-19 and I know I'd have to get bigger injectors will 550cc work? And I also know I will need another fuel pump. Sorry guys I'm just trying to do my research now so when time comes I'm good to go so please help me or link me to the info. I appreciate the help thanks.

I will say that your research didn't go too well. There are infact 3 16g turbos i.e. small, big and the Evo3. There are also fake 16g turbos that plague Ebay and will say '"Tturbocharger" or "GT" on the side of them. Genuine MHI 16g will have "TD05H" on the housing. All 3 are different in their spool rate and CFM output. Generally, the way people view the 16g is that it's "pointless" to get anything other than the E316G.

The 16g or 14b turbo will not directly bolt up to a 2g as an install kit will be needed to bolt it up. It will mount up to the exhaust housing with no issues. The E316G however, is known to have major boost creep issues and will need the use of port work done on the turbine wastegate outlet, an external wastegate or if you don't plan on using boost over 20psi, a 38mm internal wastegate.

550cc will work for the time being and will require the use of a tuner. Getting a larger fuel pump will also need the use of an AFPR unless you use the 190lph pump.

You will get other advice as well as what to use, but keep on searching and you will find a plethora of information on the 16g.

ok, well.......

there are actually a lot of types of 16g turbos. the most common are the small 16g, big 16g, and then the evo3 16g.

the small 16g increases compressor flow by 25% at 505 CFM at 15 PSI boost. Supports 320 HP. It has a larger 7CM2 turbine housing.

the big 16g increases compressor flow by 25% at 550 CFM at 15 PSI boost. Supports 375 HP. It has a larger 7CM2 turbine housing.

the evo3 16g increases compressor flow by 25+% at 550 CFM at 15 PSI boost. Supports 380 HP. It has a larger 7CM2 turbine housings for reduced back pressure at high RPM. The EVO3 Big 16G features a slightly larger compressor wheel than the previous Big 16G. It also uses an improved turbine housing design, which offers better boost control.

all 3 of these will bolt onto any mitsubishi flange. if i was you i would go with the evo3 turbo that way you have room to grow. you should look into getting larger injectors, atleast 650cc's because in my experience 550cc's have been a waste. also i would go with a 255 pump and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. dont forget to look at the basically step by step modding list on here. it's one of the best ways to start and learn.

haha liquidx....you're quick! beat me to it!

I would first like to take the time to tell you to search. Every question you have asked has already been answered and i no that for a fact. Secondly, there are 3 types of 16g's. A small, a big, and a evo 16g. Lastly if 275hp is your goal a small will be best. You dont need "another" fuel pump...just an upgraded pump, and 19psi is about maxing your injectors if you have all the other upgrades. A 16g will bolt right up, BUT LOOK UP THE INFORMATION! Lastly, you are going to want all supporting mods before you just strap a new turbo on.... Before you decide to touch your car with modifications i suggest you read and do your homework. SEARCH AND READ, your welcome.

Alright I see. I do have a fuel pressure regulator for it haven't put it in yet and a god speed fmic kit. How much boost can I push out of the stock turbo and injectors etc..

every setup is different but i wouldnt turn the boost up and/or "get on it" until you have more supporting mods and something to tune with.

I left my car alone and didnt touch it till one year....after i had read up on here and was comfortable with what i was going to do then i decided to start. And even then i asked for help from a local DSM'er and he taught me all i no today for the most part. Now i pass on the wisdom to our newest member in our group haha....

Yea I understand what your saying and I appreciate your help. I won't be doing any modding till I make sure I know what I'm buying and doing.

Before doing that, make sure everything is maintained first. All of parts on your car need to work properly before you begin to think about modding unless the said part is able to be upgraded and won't be hindered by something else.

Once you do get to modding, boost gauge first, something to log/tune with and then fuel. That's the order I would say to anyone that wants to start to have fun. That order, you'll be able to moniter what's going on before you add unknowns to the car and wonder where the problems are coming from.

Even know, the best thing for your car is doing a boost leak test

Have fun and be smart with the car :thumb:

Yeap I work at the Mitsubishi dealer and I had a mechanic inspect it he said everything looked good. Were checking the fluids this Saturday the only thing he spotted is that I need a new slave cylinder. So were doing that Saturday and he's throwing in my turbo timer and possibly the fuel pressure regulator.
