Question about selling my car

So I am trying to sell my 3000GT VR4


This kid already brought it to a mechanic and had it looked at and he wants to buy the car. Now he wants the car to go through an emissions test to test the head gasket?

Number one is how can he even know through that? Which numbers should I look at?

Also the car has no cats and is a single shot instead of the dual tip... How will that affect the number?

Anyone can help me this would be awesome

Those are two completely different tests. If he is in a state that requires emissions testing, getting it tested before purchasing is a wise move. If you have removed the cat(s), it will fail the visual test however.

You can test for headgasket failure by compression testing, leak down testing, and hydrocarbon testing your coolant. All but the emissions testing can be done by most garages and if you've got the tools, your own garage

I thought so... But he said he could test the head gasket with the emissions test.. He already knows that it wont pass emissions with no cats... He says its in the sub categories you can tell if the head gasket is blown. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

I am selling the car as is... And one of the things is that it wont pass emissions cuz it has no cats.

Using a sniffer on the coolant used to be a good test for hydrocarbons leaking into the coolant through a head gasket leak or crack. I don't know if modern testing equipment will let you do it or not. There are also testing strips available for this, like pH test strips.
If he wants to buy the car, let him buy any testing he likes.

Thank you for answering my question defiant but wouldn't it be kinda senseless since if a car is burning coolant its pretty obvious and you can smell it besides just seeing it... white smoke after all

If the kid is paying for the test why not let him do it. If you don't believe the car has a problem why worry about it. I can't see how emissions testing is going to find that issue either. If the kid is worried about it just do a compression test for him. It won't confirm an exact problem but he'll know if it does have a problem at least.

If you're selling it as is,why are you going through all this.Let him take it for a test drive .If it runs and drives good,and does'nt over heat.Tell him to buy it or don't.I hate selling cars.

Well, he is looking to dro what 8k on your car. So let him do all that stuff he wants to as long as its his money. Just watch out, if it comes back broken then your better get him to pay. So make sure you have his number and maybe even adress
