Question about replacing lash adjusters

What is the point of filling them with oil, the emptying them first? Simply so they are oiled?

I ask because we bought some new lifters for my car and a buddy of mine says we do not need to do that step because these ones came pre-oiled.

He said all we gotta do it compress them and drop them in and it's good to go. I just wanted to ask before we do it.

It's more of a cleaning issue. You wouldn't want to add old oil with new oil now would you? It's also so that the oil weight is consistent. You do not know what weight of oil or what kind of oil are in the lifters. When I did mine, the oil that came out was a light grey machine oil.

Yep, do the paperclip method until you can compress the lifter completely with your fingers, otherwise you will bend some valves.

Do it until you can compress them with your fingers. If you don't, the valves might stick open maybe even enough to bend the valves.
