How Important is it to line up the timing marks on the oil pump if the car no longer has the balance shafts/eliminated....?

The reason I had asked is because the kid that bought my old talon tsi blew it up and is trying to say it was my falt because the oil pump was off timing. Note: he cranked up the boost and did not adjust the Maf Translater and hit fuel cut and held it to the floor and blew it up.

LOL...that kid must be an idiot

My friend took out his balance shafts while rebuilding his motor but still thought that he had to line up the oil pump timing mark and all that. So, he ended up re-doing the timing like 8 times because the oil pump mark wasn't perfectly lined up and wasn't lining up again every 6 crank revolutions :banghead: Although, when I timed mine, I lined it up just because it would bug me if it was off... ROFL
