Question about idle rpm!!!??

Making long story short there is this guy at the emission test that told me to rev at 3000 rpm and hold it, after a few minutes the car started overheating and my rpm idled at 1200 and he told me thats not normal.. is that true?
My normal idle at normal temp is 800 to 900rpm...
So my question: Is it normal when overheated the car to rev higher?

Well, First of all, you have a heating problem, so Check your Fans, see if they work, if they do, then check your thermostat, it might be time to change it.

also, 1200 isnt THAT bad of a idling problem. could just be a minor vacuum leak. nothing huge to worry about.

That's what I was thinking. A small vacuum leak could definitely cause your idle to raise. Shit, I keep my car idling at 1100-1200 .


But yeah;

1. check to see if your fans come on.
2. Check coolant level.
3. Verify whether your thermostat is good or bad.
4. Take a look at your radiator and see what condition the fins are in.
5. Do a boost leak test, spray everything that sees boost or vacuum pressure and see if you have a vacuum leak.

Yeah thanks a lot for your input guys and I will check for vacuum leaks cause mi idle vacuum pressure is -8, -9 so I probably have a vac leak... But even so my original question haven't been answered that if is it normal for our cars to rev higher when overheated because this guy at the emission test overheated my car on propose and it really pissed me off when he said that this is not normal and failed me

i have same problem but vacuum pressure normal, Cleaned MAF still to no avail.... to answer question my other dsm does not idle higher when overheated
