well i baught my 96 tsi almost 3 months ago and i was under the impression that there was no alarm in the car, then tonight i went to a store and when i went to unlock the car the alarm just went off and im like wtf, so i waited out the alarm and drove home. When i got out of the car and opened the door the alarm went off again. I dont really know how this happened cause i drove the car like i normally do, since its always been cold weather since i got the car i havent really done anything to it besides install a cd player and subs. I have seen remotes for factory alarms on ebay so the only thing i can think of is that the car was equiped with a factory alarm and it was just never activated but somehow it just activatd itself.....Im just looking for any info that would help me figure out what happened and what i can do to maybe get a remote for it or something.

also there is a strange switch in the car witch could be a kill switch for the alarm but it is in plain sight not hidden, i got the car from a dealer and they told me that the guy who orignally owned the car had an electrical problem witht he cars blowers and he wired them up to the switch so theyd either be on or off, as opposed to having it fixed. But the blowers werent working when i baught the car it was the only problem so im not positive that this is true, the delaer said that they randomly stopped working about a week before i got it. I havent had the time/money to have the blowers looked at yet.

any info would help me out right now, thanks

Quick way to find out if your car has an alarm. ITS IN THE MANUAL as well. Lower your windows. Turn your car off. Lock the doors. Wait 30 sec. Unlock the door from the inside and open it. If it goes off you got urself a fac if u dont, you need one. LOL

ok i will try that today, but the funny thing is that, when i close/lock all the doors with the key like at night, or anytime, the alarm will go off, every once in a while so i think that tells me that i have an alarm, idk if i have to mess with the module behind the left rear cover or not?? because i took the cover yesterday to make sure is there and it is, 2 black boxes, 1 bigger then the other, the one towards the front is bigger, they are both plugged in too. But ill give this a try, o and i bought the car last owner did not give me a manual, i guess i gotta get me one, even thou i didnt think i needed for this since this procedures are all over this site.
But ok wait, so from inside the car i lower the window to lock the door with the key? right? then wait 30+sec's, then open the door from the inside? and alarm should go off, are the steps right?

Thanks anyways i will try this today later on..

To reprogram your keyless entry system for a new key fob:
1) Turn ignition to OFF.
2) Ground pin 1 of the Data Link Connector (black 16-pin connector under
dash driver's side). Pin 4 of this connector is a ground, so placing a
jumper wire between pins 1 & 4 will accomplish this. Grounding pin 1
tells the system you are getting ready to reprogram it.
3) Close all the doors.
4) Turn the key to ACC, then back to OFF. The power locks will
lock/unlock. The system is now ready to be programmed.
5) Press a button on your key fob 3 times.
6) The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.
7) If you have two key fobs, press a button on the second fob within 1
minute of pressing a button on the first one 3 times. Both must be programmed at
the same time.
8) The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.
9) Remove the connection between pins 1 & 4.

ok. i did this exact thing, now let me see i might be connecting the wrong pin #1, according to a picture i saw of the Data Link Connector pin one is the right bottom one correct? and pin 4 is the 4th pin to its left. because looking at it upside down now has me confuse..

when i connected pin 1 to a ground(i made sure is a good ground) i dont feel comfortable grounding back to ECU, so i did it to body(chassis), i had the key off the ignition, this is with everything close(trunk, doors, and the hood buttom switch down), then i put the key in, and turned to ACC and back to off in less then 2 seconds, or should i have waited more seconds to turn back to off, when i did this thou, nothing happened, now i went and checked the fuse for ANTI-THEFT ALARM* under dash-fuse 10amps, and is good, now would weak battery on the remote do this? i mean the lights on the remote turn on on all 3 buttons, if i hold any button the light scome on (on remote) and then turn back off, Or are they supposed to stay on while i hold the buttons? im not sure if last owner replaced battery or not thats why i ask, i just received this remote yesterday and tried this procedure yesterday as well.. let me know what you think..

Thank You Very much for teh help, i hope i can get this going..

So this only works with cars that are 96+? I've known my car has the green secure light since I restored and and paid no mind to it when I lock my doors. Was thinking of putting in a aftermarket alarm, but with this, it would obviously work with a 95?

... so I just tried to program my remote control, and it did not happen, I do have an alarm system , the factory not dealer installed, and I just can't get the locks to lock/unlock at all, either am not going into the right pins or something but I really need either pictures or something to be able to get the ecu into programming mode, I check I have alarm by : going in the car lower window and locking the door with key from outside, so when I open the door from the inside after the security light went off, I still waited 10 more seconds and when I opened the door the alarm went off, with the horn on the front left side of the bumper(driver side) going crazy  so now I just need help on how and which is the pin 1 on the data link connector, there is 2 connectors there I'm guessing one is for dealer which is like a clear yellow and the other is for "us", so please guide me with this.. Thank You..

I had this problem as well. The batteries to my fob were dead and the alarm would go off all the time.
Have you tried shutting the door putting the key in the door and turning it counter clockwise? It turned my alarm off... I'm sure it was counter clock wise. If not try clock wise after the fact.
There is numerous posts on how to completely disarm the alarm on the boards here.

well yea, im not having problem on doing this, like today i will be replacing my batteries, but thats not my problem, my alarm doesnt go off, unless i lock the door and open it from inside or tried to open it while is lock from outside, my problem is that i'm not going into programing mode, when i ground pin#1 and turn teh key to ACC and then back to OFF, nothing happens. i for a fact know i have alarm, i check 3 ways: 1st i locked the door from outside and waited 30secs until SECURITY light turns off which it did after 6-8 secs, and then open the door from inside and alarm went off, 2nd i took the left rear panel off and there it was the module for the alarm system, and 3rd i call Mitsubishi and gave them the VIN and they told me yes i have factory installed and even confirmed the right remote FCC #. but i havent gotten past programing mode either im not going into the right PIN#1 or something. not sure, but is getting annoying..

PLEASE NOTE: When you begin the programming sequence to sync your remote to your installed remote keyless entry (RKE) system, you MUST HAVE ALL OF YOUR REMOTES (Including PREVIOUSLY PROGRAMMED remote(s)) to be programmed with you at the time of programming…

ALL PREVIOUSLY PROGRAMMED REMOTES WILL BE ERASED AT THIS TIME.

(This is a safety feature which prevents anyone else from accessing your vehicle.)

UP TO 3 REMOTES (total) may be programmed to your vehicle’s system at one time.

METHOD#1:

KEYLESS REMOTE PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:

AT TIME OF PROGRAMMING:

ALL remotes to be programmed and/or reprogrammed MUST BE PRESENT.

1. Locate the Data Port.

2. Insert keys in ignition and leave in the OFF position.

3. Make sure there are metal contact pins in terminals 1 and 4 and connect the Data Port with a suitable jumper wire, leave jumper wire connected throughout the programming procedure. Make sure you know which terminals are 1 and 4.

4. Within 10 seconds after connecting the jumper wire, turn the ignition switch to the ACC position and then back to OFF. Note: The doors will automatically lock and unlock once at this time indicating that the system is in the programming mode.

5. Press the LOCK button on the transmitter to be registered three times within 10 seconds. Upon successful programming, the door will lock and unlock once.

6. If there are two remotes, register the first, then register the second. Repeat step 5 within one minute to program second remote. After completing the second programming, the doors will lock and unlock once.

7. Disconnect the programming wire and remove the keys from the ignition.
