Question about cam gear position

Okay I was out messing with my car and I decided to check the timing belt. It looks great I guess but I started to get worried when I looked at the cam gears. Just say your looking at the cam gears on the driver side, okay
The mark thats used for timing for the exhaust gear points straight right and
the intake cam gear mark points straight down.
Is everything fine or what?

Forget about the marks for the moment. Now, which direction do the cam gear alignment dowel pins point? And if it runs fine, there is no worry. If 1 was 90*out like you say, the valves would be bent and it wouldnt run at all.

Im going to assume when you say alignment points that you're taking about the little mark on the two gears(little line)
The exhaust one points right and the intake points down

No, Im talking about the dowel pins that locate the cam gear onto the cam. It will be a small circle drilled into the cam gear right next to the cam gear bolt. The cam has a pin in it that fits onto this hole to locate the gear. Like I said, forget about the alignment marks for the moment and look for the pin position. They should point the same way on both cams.

The only way to really know is to pull the timing cover and look at all the marks and make sure they are all lined up. Sure both cam gears could line up but if they are both off a few teeth on the crank pulley then you are still not OK. Check right and you will have no doubts in from then on.
