Quaife LSD or AWD Shell?

A friend is trying to decide....

He has a 400ish HP 90 TSI FWD Talon. Keeps breaking axles..
He's thinking of doing one of 2 things; Getting a quaife LSD (not to stop the axle breaking but to help with the insane torque steer) for $1000, or buying an AWD TSI sans engine that he will place his engine into for $1200 (including the price of the engine transfer).

Is having an AWD drivetrain going to cause him as many or more problems as he's having with the FWD axles? Or less?

He likes the FWD and he likes the idea of AWD also.. he's mainly wondering about the reliability issues. He bought the car with the mods and isn't as tech savvy as someone who woulda built the car themselves.

I'm of the AWD mindset.. I had a WRX and loved it, but driveline loss can suck when you race from a roll..

The drivetrain loss is so minimal at 400HP, it's hardly worth mentioning.

He'd never hookup right with a high-power FWD, unless he's on a track with slicks, stiff motor mounts, and fine-tuned suspension.

On the street, he'd get destroyed by any 300+HP AWD car (for any reasonable, short race.)
