First of all this website is the best DSM site Ive been to and i hope i can contribute to it as much as i can. Right now ive been posting at another dsm website but im looking to get help from this site since it looks like theres so much dsmers. Well let me start with my problem. I baught a 1997 gst that crankwalked on the previous owner, i decided to buy it and buy a new engine from tigerjapanese.com. I took the car to a local shop and they put the engine in and other extra parts like a FMIC (dejon tool) a apexi twin chamber BOV and an external o2 dumptube, and a new clutch. Theres also another problem with the car not starting becuase the anti-theft system wont let me turn the car on threw the igniton so the mechanic put some wires were i just connect them to the battery and the car turns on, is there anyway i can fix this? The mechanic did a really bad hack job installing the FMIC and other things in the car, the radiator doesnt even fit because of the intercooler pipes so i decided to take the car home how it is and fix it up myself. Heres a link of my other thread that has been going on since i got the car I Need Help ASAP (got pics) - DSMsource.com Forums

Here are some pics of the hack job the mechanic did

Heres an update, im really really happy with how thins are working out. Ive connected all the pipes and the car turns on with the key now so thats good.

The only problem i have now is that everytime i speed and the car reaches high RPMs after i let the gas go the car turns off. The other problem is that the stock oil pressure gauge is not working.

Here are some pics of my car now let me know what you think.

That's why you shouldn't vent the BOV.
You're running extremely rich when you let off of the gas and the air that the MAF is measuring to mix with the fuel gets vented. Then the car stalls.

Looks like you're doing a good job fixing it up. Replace that BOV with one you can recirc and it should run tons better.

I think the bov i have cant be recirculated ts an apexi twin chamber bov. If thats the case then ill get a new one people are telling me that it might be a boost leak and to test it. I really dont know how to test for boost leaks.

I have a question about the ebay manuel boost controllers are they any good? And i need gauges boost, oil pressure,air/fuel those are the important ones right? Where can i find decent ones?

Yea, a vented BOV is like a huge boost leak.

Check vfaq.com for a boost leak tester.

I have no experience with ebay boost controllers, so I won't touch that one.

As far as gauges, boost gauge is a must, but forget about the A/f gauge unless it is a wideband. Everyone has thier preference for gauges, but Autometer is the old standby.

Get rid of that Apexi BOV and get one that you can recirculate back to the intake pipe. My car actually shut down after the hose that recirculates back to the intake came apart. Stay away from Ebay boost controllers...go with something like this: EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Manual Get a boost controller, oil pressure gauge and a WideBand...and if you cash like that then get also an EGT gauge if you are thinking on pushing some good Hp's. The car is coming out good Btw. :thumb:

Ok thanks and what would be a good bov that recirculates into the intake and thats loud at the same time? I saw these glow gauges on ebay are they any good?

Man if I was you, and I was looking to get a bov that I'm going to recirculate, I would just go with a crushed 1g bov, they sound good with hard pipes and have been known to hold over 27 psi without leaking. Btw, good job doing shit yourself. Btw good job on deciding on doing the work yourself.

Well heres an update, ive found the boost leak and fixed it. Ive made so much progress doing everything myself and its been so much fun heres a pic of how the car looks now compare it with the pic of the begging of the thread. Since the begging ive baught a few parts heres the list

Hks Turbo timer type 1
Safc 1 (on its way)
Boost and oil pressure gauge (on the way)
boost controller (on the way)
air filter

I need

smaller radiator fan
wideband
logger

Totally agree....U should either change to a recirculating BOV or go with a MAFT set up.
The easier way would be the BOV change
Good luck

Did you plug the nipple on the intake tube for the charcoal canister? I don't remember reading that you did that.

I left the nipple on charcoal canister open because all other cars have it open, i think that it suppose to stay open my friend has a 95 gst stock no mods and his is open so i guess thats how its suppose to be.

Alright im confused now can someone explain to me what exactly a MAFT setup is?? Sorry for the newbie question but im confussed now, i need some clearing up.

Mass Air Flow Translator...it looks like this:

You should only use it if you are running lots of power. With the set up you got..i'll stick to the SAFC-1 or 2.
