Quick question, when putting the head on does the bottom end need to be times and also the head before putting the head back on? I can't just put the head back on without anything being timed because when I do start timing everything could be off and valves start hitting the pistons and stuff right? So whats the correct way to put the head back on without damaging anything or have any valves hitting the pistons? Thank you.

It doesn't really matter where the pistons are. The valves will be closed in the head so you can rotate the crank after the head is on.

Bolt the head back on, rotate everything to propper time (cam gears, crank, oil pump, bs if you have them)

May be easier to have number one on tdc before bolting the head on. One less thing to time after its already on. I always have :idontknow:

^ What they said. Slap on the head, torque everything down, then time the engine. Time the bottom end first, then time the head. Make sure every thing stays in time when you put the belt on.
