It is my great fortune that I live 8 miles from a Pull A Part. I went previously, to get a center console from an Avenger, and looked for a few parts to fix my GST. I know, nothing original about swapping to an Avenger dash, but I like the look, so who cares?
Went back today, to get the remainder of the pieces I needed, and had a stoke of luck. I used their car finder to search for Eclipses, just for giggles...when I went a week ago, there were two of them, and pretty much stripped.
Turns out, they had a 1997 that they added to the lot, yesterday.
Ran over there, and as my luck held out, it had a pair of headlights. Foggy/scratched, but in tact.
My luck immediately abandoned me, as I realized I had lost my 10mm socket, and had no way to get them. I need to invest in a set of a dozen of them, or something.
Found another guy working on a car, who kindly let me borrow his 10mm, and they were mine.
I'll have pictures of the 97+ conversion when I do that tomorrow, or the next day.
Total expenses for center console, ashtray, side panels, door inserts, ac bezel, gauge bezel, cruise control, side mirrors, headlights, and misc trim?
$80. Gotta love it.
Oh, and some of you may go "Hey, dumbass! Didn't you have a transmission problem, and suspension to deal with?"
Why, yes, yes I do. But I don't have $500+ for struts and the rest right now. And if my car has to ride crappy until I can fix it properly, I might as well enjoy the ride as best I can. Cleaning up some of the ricer feel... definitely improves my mood. (yes, the airbag is still silly...gotta repaint it)
And, here's the interior update, before and after obviously.
