My car has basicly been down for a year and a half. Over the last few months it has been slowly coming back to life. I have take it out a few times for no more then 30 mins, but it has driven find, minus a few things. WG arm coming off, running a little warmer then I like 210-220.
Well, monday I changed the thermostat, and Radiator cap. Yesterday, I filled it back up with water, let it get nice and warm to bleed out any air bubbles, and took it out. Well, as I turn out of my neighborhood, about 1/8 mile from my house, I see a puff of white smoke, and the car died. This happened at approximatly 3k rpm, and not in boost.
I was able to limp the car off the road. Check all IC pipes, nothing. Well, I was able to get the car restarted and limped home. Im going to try and to a compression check tonight, and check the timing. Does anyone else have any other clues as to what I should check?

When you "limped home" was there any smoke of any kind? Was there ever a "puff" of smoke again? Did the car run on all cylinders, or was it missing on one or two cylinders?

I didnt see another puff of smoke no. Being that I was about 50ft from my neighborhood, I didnt really push on it to see if it would do anything. It did sound to me like it may have been down a cylinder.

Sounds like you tossed a head gasket. Likely blew out the sealing ring in between two cylinders or between a cylinder and a cooling jacket.

Check timing first, then do a leak-down test. Otherwise, pull head.

You had work done at Top Street right?

Are you talking to me?

Yes, I did years ago. Jake made my intercooler pipes, and did a few other things on the car when the shop was in business.

I am still in contact with Jake on this forum and see him from time to time.

Quick update. Pulled the plugs last night, and check out the cyl tops, soaked. Also poped the readiator cap, and it was almost bone dry. So, I'm leaning twords the HG as well. Want to do a comp test for sh*ts and giggles, but I'll be pulling the head this weekend probably.
