Hey everyone how are you? I know this seems to be a common thread but none are exactly like this one so i posted a new one...

I just got my Talon on the road from a 2 year slow build and i am only having one issue with it. The car smokes under boost. I had it at 10 pounds of boost and it wasn't so bad, but i up'ed it to 25 pounds of boost and it smokes quite badly. If i am light on the throttle it will not smoke and it does not smoke at all out of boost. The car has....

1- New everything on the bottom end
2- Brand new Precision SCM61
3- New Everything on the head (Valve guides, seals, etc...)
4- Metal Cometic Head Gasket.

Basically everything is new...

Now i have read, but cant remember where, that a lot of people have issues with pushing coolant into the chambers with high boost, when using a metal head gasket. Some had the problem fixed when they torqued the head to 100+ Ft. Pounds. ( I believe it was 115?? Can someone confirm?)

Any way can someone offer me some help and/or remedies they have seen work?? Thank you so much guys, otherwise the car runs great.

CLIFF NOTES:

1) Car smokes under boost only
2) New everything - Engine, turbo, seals, etc....
3) Can anyone help with some fix ideas??

Thank you Everyone!!

Have your performed a compression test?
Are your coolant and antifreeze mixing?

Check the turbo for shaftplay and the LICP for oil.

Pull off your rad. cap and let the car idle and see if it is pushing bubbles up and that will let you know if the HG is out. What size injectors are you running with that turbo at 26psi. I have seen cars blow smoke from running to lean but it wouldn't do it at 10psi. If the turbo is new you probably didn't blow the seals out but you might have got something wrong with the headgasket. Compression check it as well. If it leaks at 10lbs it isn't just because of high boost.

Ok, what color is the smoke upon acceleration? Did you already break-in the motor? I havent heard of people needing to TQ the head studs down past 100lbs. Someone may have Tq'd them down to "115 lbs" if they were using 10W motor oil as a lubricant as opposed to ARPs molylube. If you haven't broken the engine in yet, I wouldn't be boosting 25 psi, I would do this compression test>>>http://www.dsmgrrrl.com/FAQs/compression.htm, if your compression is near service level or below do the "wet test" it will coat the cyl. walls, and fill any pockets the rings havn't and if compression goes up by 30psi or so the rings havent seated properly. Also rebuilt engines will smoke some when everything is seating. If you did break in the motor already what method, and how many miles?

Actually Guys i havent broken in the engine yet. Since the rebuild it has 20 miles on it. You think that could be causing the problem?? Ive rebuild NA engines and beat on them right away. Is it different with boost? What would you guys suggest? And thanks so much for your replies, any help is appreciated.

And for the above post...

Im using FIC 750CC injectors, and according to my wideband im not lean. (Thanks Though)

Compression is 150 - 145 - 150 - 150

And there is no bubbling in the coolant and no apparent mix of the two...

And if i boost heavy and come to a stop, a cloud of white smoke catches up with me (LOL)

Break it in like this:

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Remember that you need to beat on the motor to get the rings to seat properly and prevent blowby. I'd recommend 15-16 psi for the first break in period (30 miles). After that, you can run what you'll normally be running. While a compression check is helpful, motors with blown HG's don't always register lower compression numbers. Are you consuming or pushing any coolant from the overflow under hard boosting?

Torquing down the head studs more probably won't help you. People have had sealing issues on metal headgaskets if the head wasn't finished mirror smooth. If you had the head resurfaced, check with the machine shop and ask them what RA the head was resurfaced to and let us know. I'm with TSIfreek. I like the OEM composite headgaskets since they seal very well and can handle big power.

Im gonna go for a nice cruise for a good 30-40 miles. I just added a 1/2 a pint of coolant. When i get back ill check the level again. And finally if i can, ill get a log from DSMLINK and see if it shows anything. Thanks so far guys, stay tuned....
