Hey everyone trying to run some -8 PTFE hose for my fuel feed line.
i am just wondering the best way to go about these fittings they are a real PITA.
i've tried various grinders, saw etc. but from what i can gather the heat from cutting causes the ends to swell and cannot install the first part of the fitting.
i bought the AN hose cutters from summit, they are terrible and get caught in the PTFE and cant even make a clean cut, however i can run the first part of the fitting over the hose after using them.
so is the correct way of installing these fittings it to use the cutters run the fitting over the hose and then clean / true the cut up with a grinder or something similar and install the rest?
i should note that when i am cutting the line i am taping around the cut mark, ive tried electrical, painters and duct. but electrical seems to work best.

A trick I used to get clean cuts is use marine grade harbor freight heat shrink, it keeps everything tight, square and fray free. Also try to use a thinner cutting blade. I converted all my hoses to ptfe, also all ptfe hose are not manufactured the same way. For example -6an hose I get from summit racing is not the same as -6an hose I get from racetronix.com.
 
A cutoff wheel on a die grinder works well, in that case you have to be sure to rinse the hose out really well to get the grit out of it afterwords, I use a pvc pipe cutter tool that looks like a big pair of pliers with a guillotine type of blade on them, I got them at Harbor Freight, its not perfect by any means but it works pretty good.

Thanks guys, I did try some heat shrink but didn’t help with the grinder, I got .040” cutting wheels was the smallest I could find. Since those pvc cutters are so cheap it would be dumb to not give it a try.

Make sure you wrap the end of the hose you'r cutting with a good tape. I use a reinforced packaging tape ( link below ), wrap the end tightly, put a " cut here " line on the tape and use a cut off wheel and other members suggested, cutting thru the stainless and PTFE, ( make sure you make a straight cut ). When its cut I install the olive with the tape on, cutting seems to loosen it up just enough to fit it between the SS and PTFE, position it and give a push against the work bench. Check if the PTFE butts against the step in the olive, if it's angled, it wasn't cut square. Also use lubricand ( I use Mobil1 ) on the nipple, hold nipple in vice ( soft jaws made for AN fitting link below ) push the hose/olive onto the nipple, remove the tape, slide the socket forward, lubricate threads, leave a 1/32 gap between socket and nipple, not done yet, cap one end of the hose assembly and test at a minimum of twice the pressure the hose will see in service, blow it out with compressed air, install. Forgot,
Lubricate ( Mobil 1 ) sealing angle of the fitting to prevent galling when tighting.
 
Here’s where I am now, it seems like I can’t get the hose end over the olive, from everything I seen I’m Only supposed to push the braided steel back and not remove any, but to me it seems the hose end is to jammed to move over the olive. Should I trim it he stainless back?

Thanks everyone for chiming in, my biggest tip to anyone would be not to peel back any of the hose, with a clean cut on grinder ferrule slips in and then hose end slide over quite easy take me about 10 minutes to do one. Also my closed end of 12 pt wrench is much better then the adjust aluminum AN fitting wrench I had.
